Inbox: New York Mets Hall of Fame, Uniforms

A few people emailed me on the side about yesterday’s suggestion that the Mets build a proper Hall of Fame for fans to visit.

I think they are building a store front type space in the right center field area on field level. It is boarded up space but if you walk around the back opposite of Worlds Fair Market you can see a glass enclosed space that looks like they have display cabinents being built.

No one at the park was able to tell what it is but I think it will be the HoF.

I hope you are right!

Mets Walk-offs sent over an article they had written debating the relative merits of Tommie Agee being in the Mets Hall. He also added that he had been to the Braves HOF and said it would be a great model for what to do in Flushing.

The Royals just opened their Hall of Fame.

The space in left field is 6,800 square feet, centerpieced by a 15-minute video shown on a 36-by-9-foot screen that can be watched from benches made to look like the Royalsâ€™ dugout. The video focuses on the Royals, but includes vignettes on the Athletics, Blues and the Negro Leagues.

Most every significant moment and player in Royals history is represented, set in a space that provides a nice view of the playing field

Neat! Just do that! Focus on the Mets, do your little Dodgers thing, maybe remember that the Giants existed, even educate guys like me about NYC area Negro League teams. Just keep it METS FOCUSED.

I would like to see the “Ice Cream Man” whites & the two-tone black-blue cap go the way of the dinosaurs.

Pinstripes at home & only the blue cap (lose the orange button), an alternate blue jersey would be OK, say for Sat-Sun games, and second game of double headers

Greys on the road with the current “New York“, and I would be OK with an alternate road black jersey (New York) worn in the manner as my proposed home alt-blue. Wearing a black cap with the road alt-black would be OK

If they want to wear and sell those silly sleeveless things, they can wear them during spring training and batting practice, never during real games

I happen to be a Mets fan since ’72, in case some of you “anti-black jersey” fanatics were wondering

For the amount of money we pay for seats there should be no obstructed views. This ballpark seems to have been designed by someone who had never been to a baseball game. I could see if a few seats had obstructed views due to poles, but when tv announcers (who sit in the place with the best vantage) complain about not being able to see the entire field then you know something is wrong.
