Daily News Mets Article Revised To Omit "Latin" Mention

Very interesting.   This morning, the online version of the Daily News contained the line below.  I could not believe it, blogged about it, and even emailed a few friends.   Here is the line as it was online this morning.

Mets? Did somebody say the Mets? They won’t spend the money for Holliday, Bay or Lackey and apparently, they’re only interested in signing low-budget Latin players, having shown little or no interest in Byrd, Figgins, DeRosa, Wolf or even Staten Island‘s Jason Marquis, while waiting for their markets to come to them. At the same time, the Phillies and Braves wasted no time in addressing their needs. Sad.

Presently (8:02pm) it says:

Look, I’m not insane, I’m not going to destroy my site’s credibility by throwing the word Latin in there to cause a ruckus.  It was there.  I have no idea how it got there, and maybe it was unfairly attributed to Madden by whoever posted it online.  I have no idea, but it was there.  The only editing I made to the text was to put spaces back in around the blue text (when you copy the Daily News site’s text to a Blogger template it tends to crunch the text, look after the word Phillies for an example of the scrunching), and I changed the text attributed to the URL, otherwise it looks like this:

As I said this morning, it was stunning to me to think a respected columnist would print that view.   If anyone has the newspaper version of the article I’d be curious to know what that version says.  I’d be curious to know how the word got in the original version, and how it came to be revised.

I have a copy of Sunday's Daily News right here in front of me as Exhibit A that Madden wrote about "low budget Latin players" The News can delete it from the web version but the hard copy is hard evidence

hey there Mets POLICE – Osh41 here and yes you are not nuts (well about this one) I was on my blackberry in FLA last night and read it online for sure. was surprised Madden took that shot at the Mets. It was there, no doubt about it.

Come on Shannon, do you really think that was an accident? Madden's post-Willie Randolph Mets articles have been firmly anti-Mets.

An editor realized that Madden played Godwin's Law with the Mets and had to remove because there were either complaints from readers or better yet, members of the organization.

The newspaper version of Madden's column reads:
"low-budget Latin players." That's how it was
    printed.

Thanks to everyone for the updated information, and it's interesting that it was in the hard copy of the News.

I wonder what process caused the change on the website?

Again, the site is having major problems…hence the funkiness….what totally sucks was today was gonna be “work ahead” day.  Oh well.

While I try to recover ALL the posts (doh!!!!!!) I’ll continue typing over here in the orange box.

So why is Mike my favorite Met?  Because I love the number thirteen.

(Actually my favorite Met is future Hall of Famer Jon Niese.  I intended to post today about “Mets I like” - but not having a blog at all is sort of screwing with the plan for the day)

FLUSHING, N.Y., September 2, 2010 – The New York Mets today announced they selected the contract of catcher Mike Nickeas from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League.  To make room on the 40-man roster, the team transferred righthanded pitcher John Maine to the 60-Day Disabled List.  Nickeas will wear uniform #13 and will be available for tonight’s game in Atlanta.

Nickeas, 27, began the season at Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League, where he hit .283 (75-265) with five home runs and 33 RBI in 82 games.  The 6-0, 210-pound Nickeas joined Buffalo in late August, playing in seven games and hitting .214 (6-28).

The native of Vancouver, Canada originally was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the fifth round of the 2004 First Year Player Draft before being traded to the Mets on August 30, 2006 for outfielder Victor Diaz.

  • The site at metspolice.com is experiencing technical problems.

Remember those other 7,000 posts from the last three years?   Media Goon is down in the basement retyping them.

Until he finishes,I will use the Tumblr as a workaround.
