Should Reyes be at mini-camp

I find my brain keeps coming back to Mets mini-camp this morning.  Mets Blog mentioned the players that will be at the camp: Santana, Niese, Ollie, and Murphy.

Reyes is working out on Long Island.

I find I would prefer if Reyes were in camp, but I can’t quite put my finger on why.  Maybe because then the beat writers could report that he looks great and I’d sleep better.

What do you think?

  1. He is under the watch of the team. I am fine with him being in LI. No need to have him being hounded. Just work and get healthy

  2. Yeah from the idea that positive reports about him would make us happy. However, I’d rather him not push too hard yet, as it’s still 11 weeks until Opening Day, and I don’t want reporters pushing the “He’s not ready yet” angle when he won’t go all out for them.

  3. I’m of two minds. If he’s in camp, we’ll be able to keep a better eye on him. If he’s on the Island, he’s as far as possible from the Mets’ training and medical staffs that so completely screwed up oversight of his injury and recovery last year…

  4. I pretty much agree with all of these opinions, though he should be in mini-camp. It’s more important that he reports in 3 weeks with pitchers, catchers, and injured players (which if you think about it, leaves about 5 people for the full squad reporting date).

  5. I think this is just looking for something to complain about. As long as Reyes comes to spring training ready to go, there’s no need to worry
