David Wright understands the mission

I probably should have written this about 16 hours ago but I have some other interests besides the Mets (“job” and “daddy”) but better late than never.

I’m thrilled that finally someone other than me understands the mission and I am thrilled that the person is the future captain David Wright.

At some point Wilponspeak made it seem ok to play “meaningful games in September.”. Yeah that meaningful game 162 in ’07 and ’08 meant a lot. Who can ever forget the thrill of Tom Cylon Glavine’s final Mets appearance or the last game at Shea?

I hate to bring up certain other teams but the Yankees get it. Girardi is changing his uniform number to 28 to remind everyone of what the goal is. (I double dare Jerry to wear 3).

It makes me happy to her Wright talking about winning the World Series. Not a rebound, not make the playoffs. Win.

If all goes well, Wright will play his entire career here and we’ll finally have a Franchise who didn’t spend 6 years in Ohio.

So far DW has been on the quiet side, and one thing the recent teams have missed is that Hernandez/O’Neill/LoDuca type that will get in the face of teammates when they start slacking. I don’t know if Wright has that in his personality, but the quote was a good start.

Just like I challenged Reyes yesterday to put all aspects of his game together, it is time for David to lead. Hitting a quiet .300 isn’t enough. Time to win. You understand the mission, now go grab the other 24 guys by the neck and make Omar look like a genius.
