Mets Police: home life sitcom edition

Some advice from y’all:

Mets Police Junior really wants to come to Opening Day.  I have a ticket.  He doesn’t have perfect attendance, I will let him come.

He owns a blue/black hybrid hat and he likes it.  He’s 6.

I’m the so-called leader of the Blue Cap Army so I will be there with my blue cap and Mets Police #86 jersey…but I’ll have this kid with me in a hybrid cap.

The obvious solution is to get him to wear a blue one.  I get it.

This morning I tried to picture what will happen when he wants to wear the hybrid.  Anyone out there married?

“Honey, see I’m the leader of the Blue Cap Army and if he wears this then all these guys I don’t know will make fun of me and then my blog will be stupid and….”

Picture the Marge Simpson face.

So what do you think?  Will you guys pick on me?  Can we all agree he’s 6 and it’s cool ?   In the meantime I will try to use jedi mind tricks on him.

  1. My view is this: the Mets, the actual Mets should be wearing the traditional orange and blue, that’s the team colors and they should wear them day in, day out.

But as for me, and other “civilians”, we’re not on the payroll of the Mets and quite simply, bright orange and blue are not flattering colors on many of us. So, for us civilians, I think hybrid is fine for caps as well as clothing.

There’s a reason why most of my wardrobe and most NY’ers wardrobes feature so much black, it’s slimming and it looks cool. If the Mets ever decide they want me to play first base for them, I’ll wear orange and blue all the time. Until then, I’ll wear both hybrid Mets caps and blue Mets caps depending on my mood.

As for the Blue Cap Army… I do love the idea and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone. Thanks for organizing it Shannon.

I say your son gets a pass.

  2. lol. Kids always get a pass. How’d he get the cap in the first place? I like the idea of blue caps, but I’ve never hated the black or two toned stuff, so no flak from me. Maybe he’ll want to switch when he sees all us ‘cool kids’ wearing blue?

  3. Your son definitely gets a pass. If my son gets the extra ticket I have for the Opener (which he likely will…I can sell it to a friend to offset my pack and send him to school, but that sucks), he’ll probably be in a black or 2-tone one. So he’ll need a pass too.

  4. Get him a blue cap,and tell him about the “Blue Cap Army”. Ask him to join you in your campaign, but, make sure you let him know it’s OK to wear his two-tone if he wants.
I bet Junior will be happy to support the cause, at least for opening day
for the record,I happen to own 3 Mets caps, a blue (of course), a black, and an orange, which I wear when I walk my dogs for their early morning and late night walks (increased visibility). And yes, I have donned all three simultaneously in a “rally-cap” moment (in the privacy of my own cave, of course).

  5. Give the kid a pass. He’s 6 and common sense hasn’t kicked in yet. Interestingly enough though, as faithful as I am to the Blue fitted, I don’t mind the all black fitted. Its the hybrid Two Tone fitted that looks like CRAP! No matter what uniform combo the Mets decide to wear it with, it doesn’t seem to fit in. They should simply rid themselves of it. By the way, the Mets actually looked pretty awesome when wearing the Blue fitted with the road uniforms. They did it during their last road series at the Old Yankee Stadium in 2008 and it left me craving that look even more. But just like the Mets, they went ahead and disappointed the fanbase again!…Thanks for the shoutout before!

    1. Agreed, as much as I dislike the black cap, the two-toned (what i often refer to as hybrid) looks awful on TV. Not so bad on a civilian especially my kid (he’s cute) but on TV you can’t see the NY. If they would just do an orange NY with no dropshadow it might work better.
