Has enough time passed that you can wear a Mets Bonilla jersey?

Good Saturday morning.  I’m actually writing this in the 14th inning of last Saturday’s game – the game went so long I started cleaning out my inbox and realized I had missed this one.

Clancy has a Bonilla jersey.  I think he should wear it to games.  Be interesting.

You guys ponder, I’m probably at Dunkin.

    1. I’m pretty sure the “Fair-Weather Fashion Fans” would be utterly confused. Since they probably can not conceive of someone before Wright wearing “5”

    2. @randy you can wear a Shinjo jersey anytime, just for laughs. Please wear red wristbands with it.
(Probably the wrong morning for me to rant about the Mets obsession with Japanese players.)

  1. Shannon, is Clancy’s Bonilla jersey a button-down with racing stripes? If so, he should definitely wear it. The jerseys standing as an uniform artifact, outweighs the whole “Bonilla” negative connotation.

    1. ^^^What he said.

I actually own a road jersey of that transitional style. It’s hella cool.

  2. I could not look at that jersey w/o a feeling of disgust. Might as well wear a Vince Coleman jersey.

  3. I don’t think that enough time will EVER pass that you can wear a Bobby Bo jersey. Unless you’re a Pirates fan. And perhaps not even then.

  4. Bobby Bonilla jerseys should be permanently consigned to a dark corner of the closet, or preferably, used as car-wash rags.

  5. Considering he is on the Mets payroll for the better part of the next 25 years I think it is wearable.

  6. I don’t know that I ever wore this jersey, maybe opening day of ’92. I ordered it the day they signed him (I’d been saying a few years prior that the Mets needed someone like him) and it all went very south very fast soon after that. It just carried too much resentment for me and pretty much hung in a dark closet in my folks house all these years – I dug it out when Shannon asked if there was ever a jersey one regretted buying.
It is a nice looking jersey but I don’t know if its coolness outweighs the Bonilla baggage. Button-up front, racing stripes sides with that old timey ‘no black nowhere’ look … still don’t know that I can wear it because I still can’t get over that the Mets are still paying him. If only it was a “Whitehurst” …

  7. oh god YES! please do wear it. i’m just waiting a few more years before my derek bell, roberto alomar and mo vaughn jerseys become acceptable. my tom glavine will never see the light of day again though!
