ESPN Ultimate Team Rankings: Mets #107

ESPN has announced their 2010 Ultimate Team Rankings in which they “measure how much MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL franchises give back to the fans in exchange for all the time, money and emotion the fans invest in them.”

OK sounds like my kind of thing.   Let’s check in on the Mets.

Ouch #107 of 122, down from #82 last year.

Fan Relations #102! (defined as “Openness and consideration toward fans by players, coaches and management.”)  I’m here to help David.  102 of 122.  4 ahead of the Lions.

Stadium Experience: #81

Nice to see my Devils doing so well in the rankings. I have repeatedly stated that the Mets could improve the atmosphere around the team by simply copying everything the Devils do.

That being said, a high ranking in this poll and a dollar will get you a bag of chips.

    • The thing about the Devils is that they are invisible. I have said numerous times that if Brodeur played at the garden there would be a statue on 33rd street.

3 rings, a 4th final, solid every year, the all time best at a position and yet nobody cares.

The Mets are ranked the worst baseball team. That is complete bs. I know that these past few years have been rough, but come on. Also, how are the Mets ranked only one slot above the Washington Redskins in terms of likability. Perhaps someone could enlighten me on the validity of this ranking, and the reasoning behind it.

    • I didn’t get to read the entire article yet but the main factor seems to be “bang for your buck” and it’s a combination of ticket prices and the 2009 disaster. The Saints were #1 because they win the Super Bowl, didn’t leave town, and you can drink on the street.

i read these ranking every year (because i’m a masochist) and they’re complete and utter BS. seriously, ESPN needs to get out of the sport business and just call themselves E! Athletes. i wouldn’t put too much weight into this.

  • My new favorite Met: #13 Mike Nickeas

Again, the site is having major problems…hence the funkiness….what totally sucks was today was gonna be “work ahead” day.  Oh well.

While I try to recover ALL the posts (doh!!!!!!) I’ll continue typing over here in the orange box.

So why is Mike my favorite Met?  Because I love the number thirteen.

(Actually my favorite Met is future Hall of Famer Jon Niese.  I intended to post today about “Mets I like” - but not having a blog at all is sort of screwing with the plan for the day)

FLUSHING, N.Y., September 2, 2010 – The New York Mets today announced they selected the contract of catcher Mike Nickeas from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League.  To make room on the 40-man roster, the team transferred righthanded pitcher John Maine to the 60-Day Disabled List.  Nickeas will wear uniform #13 and will be available for tonight’s game in Atlanta.

Nickeas, 27, began the season at Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League, where he hit .283 (75-265) with five home runs and 33 RBI in 82 games.  The 6-0, 210-pound Nickeas joined Buffalo in late August, playing in seven games and hitting .214 (6-28).

The native of Vancouver, Canada originally was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the fifth round of the 2004 First Year Player Draft before being traded to the Mets on August 30, 2006 for outfielder Victor Diaz.

  • The site at metspolice.com is experiencing technical problems.

Remember those other 7,000 posts from the last three years?   Media Goon is down in the basement retyping them.

Until he finishes,I will use the Tumblr as a workaround.

metspolice.tumblr.com or just stare right here and ignore that white space on the left.   Might be a while…
