My new favorite Met: #13 Mike Nickeas
Again, the site is having major problems…hence the funkiness….what totally sucks was today was gonna be “work ahead” day. Oh well.
While I try to recover ALL the posts (doh!!!!!!) I’ll continue typing over here in the orange box.
So why is Mike my favorite Met? Because I love the number thirteen.
(Actually my favorite Met is future Hall of Famer Jon Niese. I intended to post today about “Mets I like” - but not having a blog at all is sort of screwing with the plan for the day)
FLUSHING, N.Y., September 2, 2010 – The New York Mets today announced they selected the contract of catcher Mike Nickeas from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League. To make room on the 40-man roster, the team transferred righthanded pitcher John Maine to the 60-Day Disabled List. Nickeas will wear uniform #13 and will be available for tonight’s game in Atlanta.
Nickeas, 27, began the season at Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League, where he hit .283 (75-265) with five home runs and 33 RBI in 82 games. The 6-0, 210-pound Nickeas joined Buffalo in late August, playing in seven games and hitting .214 (6-28).
The native of Vancouver, Canada originally was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the fifth round of the 2004 First Year Player Draft before being traded to the Mets on August 30, 2006 for outfielder Victor Diaz.

With 24 games left, #Mets tragic number is 13. Any combo of 13 Mets losses or Phillies wins will eliminate the Mets.

Mike the best I can suggest is hope someone posts one on eBay one day. That shot was taken by a shirt owner and unless he wants to part…
I wonder if there’s a market for Cooperstown collection type shirts. I assume they coukd print more Seaver shirts.

I am getting old. As I mentioned in a different post, I went to buy one before the game started and they were already out…so I don’t think the team made that many. Over two decades and minimal improvement in their marketing skills!!
