Adam Rubin’s Meet the Mess Part 2

Interesting to see this in print.

A team official said, “I don’t think anything will not be explored.” The organization may even consider the possibility of a trade involving shortstop Jose Reyes.

People get sad when I float it, but it may be the only movable piece..and as I keep saying I expect Reyes to win the AL MVP to annoy us.

At the back end of  this week’s podcast the boys and I talked about the possibility of trading a Reyes, Wright or Santana.  You can play the audio off the main page of the site.

  1. Worst kind of Met fan, hating on home-grown Jose Reyes. Take a look at the shortstop leaderboards this season (Reyes isn’t even having a great season and he’s still 3rd in MLB in OPS for qualifying shortstops). Fans don’t understand the concept of positional scarcity — good hitting shortstops are far tougher to find than first basemen and corner outfielders. Give up the hate, man. Embrace the tattoos and dreadlocks, don’t be frightened away by them.

    1. Tats and dreadlocks aren’t the problem. 10 1/2 out with very few trade chips is.

And quite frankly, for all of Reyes’ or great numbers, 1) the team can NOT make the playoffs just as well without him, and 2) Reyes still makes the same dumb mistakes and displays the same erratic behavior he did as a newb (why is he STILL sliding into the catcher head first 7 years later?). Maybe a Backman-type could finally make a smarter player out of him, but thus far, he still hasn’t reached his potential in New York. Never mind the Mets, a change may be best for Jose.

Many (not all) of the same things apply to Wright. NO ONE should be off the table when you’re spending $130 million and closer to last place than first.

    2. The guy climbed off his coach ( doing less than most of us for three weeks) into the batters box at the major league level and is still as you point out statistically among the SS leaderboards.

  2. doomed as doomed can be.
Cerrone has a lame posting re a boycott.
Ye shall reap as ye shall sow.
Gigo, string ’em all together and we ain’t gansta, we be wussy dogs.
The dark ages have settled on the mets, a hard rain is gonna fall.
We is the dumber and dumber caption for the above photo.
Gosh did I make a mistake being born poor.
