Can K-Rod be forgiven?

Good morning Mets fans.

I don’t feel like writing “Mets officially eliminated” or “Torre insults Jerry, apologizes, isn’t coming.” Others will do that better.

I also dont feel like writing “no Torre, gotta get Wally/Bobby in here.” Been there, done that.

We could freak out about Kevin Towers. Nah. Let’s go somewhere else.

You are the new manager or GM of the Mets.

You weren’t in the clubhouse the day K-Rod punched the other man (is it girlfriends father, father in law?) Anyway you weren’t there.

You need a closer. He has a contract that maybe no other team wants, so trade value is not premium.

Perhaps you are Wally Backman and have gone some through some things yourself.

Can you welcome K-Rod to the 2011 Mets?

I’m as knee-jerky emotional as any other Mets fan and I think you can. New GM X and Wally Backman can welcome him back.

A spring quote from Wally along the lines of “I think all of us have things in our past we are not proud of, but hopefully Frankie can go out there today and pitch a 1-2-3.” The media (and fat bloggers) all comment for a day, life goes on.

If K-Rod gets people out he’ll be forgiven by the fans.

Now Ollie…he got booed Opening Day 2010. He could no-hit the spring and will still get booed the first time he throws ball one.

Just a thought on a boring morning of an endless season that went from 2 out to 6 weeks of tedium in the blink of an eye.

  1. It’s not about forgiveness, it’s about moving forward.

It’s cheaper in the long run to eat K-Rod’s 2011 money and move him for whatever you can get – if he finishes too many games next year, you’ll be stuck with a really overpaid, temperamental closer in 2012.

K-Rod, Ollie, Castillo and Beltran need to move on along with Jerry and Omar.

  2. It’s unlikely you’ll be able to trade any of the guys for impact that people suggest should be traded.

Frankie? I agree that the ‘games closed’ option is a bit steep, but that only bothers me if it keeps the Mets from doing what they need to do. And I haven’t been convinced it will.

To me, if you let K-Rod walk away, unless you sign 7 other guys that are at least as good as him, your bullpen and therefore your team is not as good. I get al the arguments about not managing to the save rule and closers are not important, etc etc, but the team is better with him.

  3. Let us remember that if Manuel had only brought him in like he should have, this never would have happened.
If Manuel had any pride, he would resign like a Japanese manager would.
If I didn’t smell the Wilpons trying to cheap out and cover Omar’s stoopid mistake, I would agree never let him play again.
Double standard though re Perez and Castillo.
Simply can’t have it both ways.
By the way, sainted Bobby Cox used to beat his wife when drunk circa 1995 and he’s going to the HOF.
Moral is maybe, if you are going to beat a family member, make sure the color of you skin is white?
Not sure this is at all true, but a speculation point.
Has K-Rod’s beatee ever said anything in public re the incident.
Who knows what he said to provoke K-Rod.
I certainly don’t condone violence in any manner, shape or form.
Think the last fight I had was in the third grade and I was the beatee.
Simply put, this is simply not a black and white case.
K-Rod surely should have turned the other sheek.
Ironic isn’t it that except for Cora and Santana and Dickey, and maybe Pelf, no other Mets player has even an ounce of fire.
Yes I am looking at you messrs. Reyes, Beltran and Wright.

      1. Correct, the FIL said these things all while staying at KRods, house, eating his food, watching his bigscreen tv, enjoying his jacuzzi, et al.

I agree w/ you in NOT condoning family violence, but this old guy may have had it coming, eh? At least get the freeloading SOB out of my house, no?

  4. Even if he was provoked, it’s not like Rodriguez has stayed out of trouble since then. This team is better off with him? Oh yeah? Coulda fooled me. They’re better off saving the money and refunding everyone some $ to make for good PR because the results obviously havent changed withhim.
