Chisox to dial back the black

Wow..a marketing executive at a Major League Baseball team wrote this upcoming sentence (in the blockquote)!   Some day friends, some day.

And now, the slightly out of context quote…

..the most alarming thing I received from a fan was the stat showing how little we are wearing our road greys in favor of the black uniforms. That is something we plan to correct going forward.

And the reason for such: via Chicago White Sox Apologize To Fans Who Complain About Uniform Change.

  1. refreshing, isn’t it? and that’s coming from a team who even had black as a part of its original color scheme.

the white sox’s use of the black alt jersey on the road got so out of hand it resulted in a black jersey vs. black jersey game in oakland this year. thank goodness it’s use will be limited next year.

    1. let me revise before people jump on me.

*coming from a team that has over 60 years use of black to fall back on. true, navy blue was the color under chicago’s inception. black wasn’t really introduced until 1949 for the sox. but this is also one of the most identity crisis-ridden franchises in all of sports as well.

      1. Didn’t the White Sox change from black to navy in ’64, and not bring black back till they phased it in during the ’90 season?

  2. Perhaps all the MLB teams will ratchet back on the use of the alternate jerseys. I understand the wish for teams to have the additional streams of revenue these jerseys provide, but overuse of these jerseys has, in my opinion, diminished the regular home and road jersey. Specifically, I do like the Mets Snow Whites and Road jerseys (some would say that the Snow Whites are the alt. jersey, but officially the throwback pins are, as are the black jerseys – http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org/dressed_to_the_nines/detail_page.asp?fileName=nl_2010_newyork.gif&Entryid=2360). I think that the vast majority of the games should be played in the regular, “official” uniforms. The alts should be worn no more than 20% of the time total.
