Photos and recap of Mets MVP reception

Jimmy the Mets fan with the major hook-up.  Here’s Jimmy:

Hats off to the Mets. They could have given me Luis Hernandez, Lucas Duda and a bag of potato chips. They could have done nothing, the way they used to.

Instead the season ticket holder reception had real food, real drinks, real beer and wine and as much of it as you wanted.

David Wright, Jason Bay, Ike Davis, Carlos Beltran, Terry Collins and Sandy Alderson milled around for a while taking pictures and trying to look happy to be there.

A Q&A session followed with Ron Darling moderating. Most of the questions were of the softball variety and elicited the predictable athlete speak cliche answers.

Most of the things said weren’t news.   We’ve heard them before. More than once.  However a few things did stand out in my mind.

– In Jason Bay’s answer to some inane “Is Jose Reyes important to the team?” question,  Bay says “I wish he would get a haircut”. At that point, Darling pipes up (while looking directly at Alderson), “And lose the do-rag”.  Interesting.

– Poor David Wright. The next interesting thing he says will be the first. His answers were a snooze fest. Nice guy. Good player. Not a leader.

– Sandy Alderson stood out. It’s a breath of fresh air to have a general manager who has a vision and can actually articulate it.

– I was surprised by the love fest for Carlos Beltran. First of all, it was a little surprising that he would even be there. I found it a little odd that the same fans who bellyache about him would be feeding him softball questions and applauding the answers.

I had a minute to speak with Sandy Alderson. I complimented him on keeping his cool with Mike Francesca yesterday. He said “They told me to go to the studio in person rather than call in. He might take it easier in me.” So much for that.  Alderson added “He kept repeating himself”. No kidding.

Pics after the jump…not our best formatting job…slammed with real life.  Thanks to Jimmy for sending and Media Goon for working on most of this post.
