Mets sign LHP Taylor Tankersley

The Mets were kind enough to send a press release while I was on lunch break so I thought I’d share.  By the way Mr Tankersley wore #57 for the Marlins.  That ain’t happening Taylor.

METS SIGN LHP TAYLOR TANKERSLEY

FLUSHING, N.Y., January 12, 2011 – The New York Mets today announced that they have signed lefthanded pitcher Taylor Tankersley, who appeared in 27 games last year with the Florida Marlins, to a minor league contract and invited him to major league Spring Training.

Tankersley, 27, didn’t have a decision and earned six holds and a 7.50 ERA (10 earned runs/12.0 innings) with the Marlins last year.  The 6-0, 215-pounder held lefthanded hitters to a .200 (6-30) batting average in 2010.  He also went 4-2 with one save and a 3.42 ERA (10 earned runs/26.1 innings) in 27 games with New Orleans (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League last season.

He missed the 2009 campaign after undergoing surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left elbow.   The Vicksburg, Miss. native led the Marlins with 22 holds in 2006 and won six games while appearing in 67 games the following year.

Tankersley is 8-3 with four saves and a 4.58 ERA (60 earned runs/118.0 innings) with 70 walks and 115 strikeouts in 168 major league games.  During Tankersley’s career, he’s held lefthanded batters to a .233 (42-188) mark.
