My Take on the New Flex Ticket Plans

Shannon posted the news earlier that the Mets are offering some new ticket flex plans. The plan choices are for 5,11,and 17 games. These plans also get a bonus game. So the plan is really for 6,12, and 18 games. The Mets are also waiving the fees for ordering the tickets. Now this is good for Mets fans on a whole. I am trying to wrap my mind around it and I am not happy from what I am taking from this.

I have had my 15 game plan since Citi Field opened.I have the Sunday plus plan, where I have 10 Sunday games and 5 weekday games. I wanted Sunday games because I work crazy hours and I know Sundays I will more then likely be off. Do I get a bonus game for being a loyal fan dropping over 2600 bucks on tickets in last 3 years? Do I get a credit for all the fees I paid for this upcoming season. I don’t even get to have 15 Sunday games.

Maybe I am jumping the gun. Maybe the Mets will do something for us 15 game plan holders that have already paid and have paid these fees. Nonetheless I am irked right now.

I am sure you guys have comments on this.

  1. I’m with you. I like the plans, but feel a bit screwed. I recently bought the Weekday 15 game plan so I could get opening day, even though I knew I had at least 2 conflicts, and there are a few day games which mean half days off at work. Would have been good to know I had other options, and could have picked my games.

By the way, I didn’t like the seat selection they gave me on the website, so I called to buy my tickets, and guess what, NO processing fee. Yes, I actually paid less by calling the ticket office and taking 20 minutes of time from a live person, rather than going the automated route online…

  2. The new flex plans stink for the people who bought the 15-game plans. But I don’t think the Mets would be selling them if they weren’t having trouble moving ticket inventory.

  3. Personally I think we need to stop trying to have it both ways as fans. People who renew their tickets right away have no right to complain. If we choose to buy early we can be mad when a better deal comes along. That’s just commerce. If you wait on a product the price goes down.

Then at the same time we’ll complain during the year that the team is not offering enough deals to get people in the seats.

I chose to renew my seats back in Dec. I am not going to complain about other deals now because no one put a gun to my head to do it.

I also don’t think it is the Mets concern to worry about the resale value of my tickets.

  4. I just got 6 Games for $99 a seat in section 524. A Sunday Yankees Game, 2 Friday Night Phillies Games, Friday Night Dodgers and two Value Games. It comes with a Presale.

  5. If you were a sucker and bought in early (or at all), then there is nothing anyone can do to help you. Every game excluding the Yankees series could be had for under face value last year on stubhub. That’s including opening day.

  6. So you complain about the plans, yet still buy them? Then when the team offers different more flexible plans you complain because you loyalty to the thing that you didn’t like wasn’t rewarded? Yeah chock that up to your own stupidity. Why would anyone even bother getting a plan this year anyways? The team is going to suck if you want to pick up reasonably priced tickets for a Sunday or Saturday game you could easily get them off of stubhub for cheap a day or two before.

  7. @drunk its chalk it up not chock if you want to talk about stupidity, learn the correct phrase. Second I like my seats. I like having the same seats and I would prefer to have all 15 games on Sundays. And I enjoy going to the ball park to see a ball game. Its what I like to do.
I am allowed to vent about the new plans opposed to my plan.

@randy like I said I like the fact that these flex plans are being offered now. I am not miffed about the ticket prices, but why can the fees be waived now.Thats what got me fired up.It just proves how unnecessary the fees are.

@scott I made money off my opening day tickets I had to sell because I had to work that day.

  8. Media Goon, that’s the price you pay for wanting the same seats to only Sunday games. As for making money off your opening day tickets, I have no doubt you did because people don’t understand supply and demand. Fact is though, the game never sold out and there were cheap seats available day of game directly from the Mets. So you made a smart move buying day of…what’s funny about stubhub is that many times people don’t even realize there are still tickets left at the box office and the buy on stubhub anyway.

  9. Flex plans don’t guarantee seats, though it looked close when I tried.

I didn’t look closely, but I don’t think the 12 flex games approximate weekends or anything. too many value/weekday options.

It’s interesting because it feels like if they didn’t see value in the 15 game plans, something that they’re aware that some people dislike the Plus aspect of, they could’ve offered these to begin with, even sans the free game.

15 game plans don’t pay fees do they? I never paid the fees in 2007-2008 for a Saturday plan.

  10. so, are these flex plans worth buying now or would it be better to wait it out until around march and see if they come out with something cheaper.

    1. Sean i dont think “cheaper” tickets will appear. its a matter of if you want 5 games or 15 or 17 or whatever….or there are always single games and there’s always secondary market

  11. I disagree, the Mets will go the route of the bargain basement tickets at some point this year, or they will sell them directly on stubhub for $2 undercutting everyone else.
