Note about the Mets don’t like black uniforms post

In case you missed it, Dan added in the comments to the “Most Mets Don’t Like Black” piece

One thing that I neglected to post was that the guy I spoke with volunteered this information. We were discussing MetsPolice and I said jokingly that we’d be kind as long as they didn’t wear black. That got him going and everything he told me was unprompted. Goes to show you how much the black unis are disliked

I just wanted to share that so you don’t think we walked up to Person X and were like “hey don’t black uniforms suck? If you like black uniforms you hate America, right?”

Also we’re choosing not to mention Person X because Person X is nice and I’d hate to accidentally complicate X’s life.

This is all so easy.  Introduce 2012 jerseys and wear the black crap on Friday night (so you can still sell it, since wearing it is somehow tied to selling it).  It’s called the Treaty of Flushing and I have been talking about it for years.  Me, Paul Lukas and Howie meet the Wilpons in a subway car.  Nice unis and no more uniform complaining.  Can’t we all get along?

Did I mention the tickets look nice?

Are you sick of this topic?  I can talk about finances if you want.

  1. I appreciate the fact that you want to protect the identity of Player X, but unfortunately unless his identity is revealed (or they decide of their own volition to go on the record about this) this just looks like so much hearsay (or, in a less charitable light, that this is merely being made up by someone so as to attempt to influence others).

    1. Well Michael, as I have stated on the site before – but not recently – I leave it to the readers to determine if the site is fair or accurate. I’ll stand by the record so far.

    2. Michael, when I was talking to this individual he knew I was with MetsPolice (we were discussing some of the posts actually). I never asked him if I could quote him directly and our conversation was never framed as an interview. Given that I did not feel it was fair to him to use his name.

I undertand that in general anonymous quotes don’t hold a lot of weight and can be suspect. However as Shannon said I think we have a good track record here and have frequently gone to pains to make sure that what we post is accurate. There have been things we have been told that we have not posted simply because we could not verify.

      1. I did not mean to either overtly or covertly imply that either the character or credibility of this site, Shannon or you, Dan, were suspect. It is just that, as you yourself noted, anonymous quotations do not carry a lot of weight and, for me at least, can raise more questions than provide answers. Also, I wonder if the opinion is that of merely this individual or the vast majority of the team (to include the individuals working in the front office as well).
But, when it comes down to it, if the quotation is from a player it doesn’t, to me, matter that much. Players come and go. Moreover, if it were me playing, even for the MLB minimum salary, I would happily put on the most horrid uniform imaginable (for reference, see Houston’s 1986 uniforms; White Sox softball with shorts uniforms; 1984ish Padres “Taco Bell” uniforms; late 1970s Pirates unifroms, etc).

  2. Stay strong Shannon!! Never stop until the black jerseys, black and blue caps, black drop-shadow is gone! I’m inclined to accept the treaty. We need to lose any other use of black. I recently saw video from 1996 and the home blue caps and pinstripes and blue and orange NO drop-shadow “Mets” looked amazing!
