Well, the Mets suck.

I’m still having fun, I’m still following the season, but I do have eyes and I can tell you the Mets suck.

If you saw the game you saw Pagan’s attempt to steal home, and you saw the popped up bunt in the 9th, and you know the Mets suck.

I do think things will get better when Bay returns and there is someone in left who can catch a ball, and maybe even hit a sac fly.

Not sure what else to say.  I did really like this comment from Eric which stuck with me all day:

There used to be something lovable about the Mets, win or lose. With all that has happened, and with tickets prices what they are, it no longer feels that way. There’s too much baggage, too many on and off field scandals and too high of ticket prices to feel the Mets can be lovable losers at this point.

For me, Shea felt like an old friend, a place you went at the drop of a hat to relax, win or lose. Everything about Citi Field is set up to feel like an event. With the Mets playing so poorly, I don’t feel psyched to be at Citi, whereas at Shea, I’d just be happy to be there on a sunny day with my cheap seats. Maybe it’s just nostalgia for my youth, but I think other people might feel it too.

I still love my Mets, and I’m still going to games (I’ll be there Saturday again) but for now, the excitement isn’t there. I hope that changes.

Let’s see…memories of Citi Field….injuries, more injuries, the worst start ever.  Yep, not much to work with there.  Perhaps renaming it Citibank Shea Stadium would change the karma.  You guys in Flushing sleep on that one.

  1. CitiField looks like a shopping mall with a ball field in the middle. I’m surprised they don’t have a Hot Topic for edgy team merchandise.

  2. Lets see:

    Can’t Hit for Average
    Can’t Pitch
    Can’t Throw
    Can’t Hit for Power
    Can’t Run the Bases
    Can’t Field
    Can’t Slide Right
    Can’t Bunt
    Can’t Pinch Hit
    Can’t Manage a Game

    Did I miss anything?

We find ways to lose that haven’t even been invented yet!

    LETS GO METS!

  3. Bummed right now; I have this sick feeling (don’t mean to dog the guy, but) David Wright is a role player; how long do we have to keep waiting for him to become Keith? He’s never going to be Keith or Mike Piazza. Perhaps it’s anger speaking, but maybe they should give him up now, to a contender where he doesn’t need to be the man or carry the team. I think he’s incapable, and the opposite of clutch.
Anyone else hope MLB takes over the team?
Anyone think I’m a jerk right now?
Anyway, did you know Lastings Milledge is in AAA at Charlotte, and Super Joe McEwing is his manager?
I’m still mad that the Mets left Norfolk.

    1. Nobody on this team will ever be Keith Hernandez. Maybe Davis or Thole have a chance, but not as long as they’re learning their craft from the Edgeless Wonders. What little remains of the 2006 Division Champions quite simply has no idea how to win.

I can’t help but wonder how different things might be if Santana were at least in the stadium every night, pitching or not.

  4. Eric’s quote also stuck with me and has been pasted in my email and forwarded about. I am so sad that this paradigm shift has changed things so much.

  5. I missed Eric’s comment earlier, so I’m really glad you re-posted it, because that is, word for word, exactly the way I feel.

  6. It could be worst, at least they seem to have given up on wearing the awful hybrids at home. It’s so sad and awful. This season is slowly resembling the early 90s. Last place & forgetable!

  7. How do you get doubled off in the 9th inning, down one run, on a bunt? Think about that. Reyes has no head for the game and Wright can’t lead.

Blow this thing up. Trade every player for prospects.

  8. The only reason to watch the Mets right now is to see how many new ways they can find to lose games.

Maybe they’ll start playing better, maybe they won’t. Either way, come Memorial Day I hope Sandy Alderson is shopping everybody who is not part of the future… and I hope he’s better at making those sorts of deals than his predecessors.

  9. At least I was able to find a used rearview mirror for my 87 Subaru at the chop shop across the street.
