Mets Today asks: is R.A. Dickey the leader?

Some very interestingness from Mets Today

Dickey was candid and made good points; he continued to speak for several minutes and included himself as one of the people who needed to take responsibility for what is going on and do better.

If I have any issue, it is this: why is R.A. Dickey the mouthpiece of this team? Why is he the perceived leader of this team?

  1. Dang. I was going to explore that myself once I got back from lunch. The Mets have 3 All-Stars on the field every night, and the only one talking sense in the locker room is the reborn knuckleballer who climbed off the scrap heap. What’s wrong with this picture?

  2. It was refreshinmg for a change for someone with this organization to tell the truth about things. Even though the truth is depressing.

  3. Our most exciting player will be gone at end of year or sooner. 10% into the season we have the worst pitching staff in baseball. Our HR leader has THREE. Basically we have a bottom 3rd hitting and bottom 10% pitching staff. Would you step up to lead this? Every pitcher on our current staff would ‘make a nice 4 or 5’. We love Pelfrey and Niese and Dickey, but a good team would have one of these guys starting, and maybe another for emergency starts and long relief.

In regards to hitting, Reyes and Wright will end up with stats barring injury, but Beltran is 280/20/90 at best, Ike could become a hitter, rest of the offense is pretty dreadful.

Let’s face it we have a team that will score 3.5 runs per game and give up 4.5. That makes for a long season. This is why coaches did not run to this place. They have no $$ for upgrades, in fact we all know the fire sale is coming.

Think back to the 70’s..this is Pat Zachry and Doug Flynn. We love them but they stink.
