My Mets hangover

I feel like it’s a Sunday morning and I’m trying to recall what the hell happened last night. Whoa….Angel did you try to steal home? Josh did you like pop up a bunt? Jose were you part of that? Did one of us actually walk last night? Holy crap how did this tiger get in here? I wrote down a number – 27,380. Did Bud take us over? Is Keith Hernandez selling burgers? Who the hell is Bay and why is his stuff in my locker?

If Terry were an incumbent manager we’d have a new manager tonight, no? I’m not anti-Colactus, just saying Willie/Jerry/most wouldn’t have survived this start.

Nobody thought they’d be this bad…but when you start mentioning 1962 in the game notes it’s bad. Yet, I’m wearing my Mitchell & Ness jacket yet again, and it ain’t because the chicks dig middle aged guys in electric blue satin.

AT HOME: The Mets are now 1-8 at home this year, which is the worst start through nine games in franchise history…The 1962 and 1981 Mets each were 2-7 after nine home games…The Mets have lost seven in a row at home dating back to April 10…It’s the longest losing streak at home since the Mets dropped eight straight games from September 14-September 28, 2007…The Mets have been outscored 54-36 at home.

METS: The Mets have now lost 12 of their last 14 games and at 5-13 they are off to their third worst start in team history after 18 games…The 1962 and 1964 clubs each were 3-15 after 18 games.

DANIEL MURPHY: Equaled his career-high with three hits…It was the 11th time he’s had three hits in a game, last accomplished on September 17, 2009 at Atlanta…Hit a two-run shot off Bud Norris in the sixth-inning to tie the game at 3-3…It was his first home run since October 2, 2009 also vs. the Houston Astros (off Doug Brocail)…Five of his 12 home runs in 2009 either tied or gave the Mets a lead.

  1. Unless you’re talking about a 1988 Baltimore Orioles start, you don’t fire the manager with a week & a half to go in April.

I doubt it would help, anyway. I’d say it’s time to fire the players, but almost half of the roster is new from last year and it hasn’t made things any better.

  2. I like Colactus’ apparent reaction to the lack of fundamentals…that’s what we’ve needed forever.

    1. The talk is nice, but I’d prefer to see more consequences in the lineup the next day. Saying they won’t tolerate it while at the same time tolerating it has become a Mets hallmark.
