Trade Beltran to Yankees? Sure why not

Mike Vaccaro (I love his work) asks if the Mets could stomach trading Beltran to the Bronx.

I say sure, why not. What’s gonna happen – the Yankees win it all and people goof on the Mets? Been there, done that.

What’s gonna happen? A generation of kids grow up Yankees fans? The papers fawn over the Yankees?

If the Yankees can send the right players back to Queens, go for it.

Be fearless.

  1. beltran to the rockies

    reyes to the giants

wright to … um … even he is not untouchable; i’d love to see david wright get a world series ring in his career; it won’t happen if he stays with the mets (ok, maybe if he’s around long enough to pull a rusty staub, in the year 2025)

anyone know the progress on johan? can he be placed on the active list before 7/31? move him too, if at all possible

looks like we’re stuck with k-rod, especially if he vests for 2012…love to move him too

of course, all of the above is contingent on the mets braintrust getting viable players/GOOD prospects in return — they (probably) don’t need to do a straight salary dump, so they really should hold onto these guys unless teams are willing to return quality

i’d say of the everyday players (when not injured), the ONLY guy who is untouchable is ike

  2. Sandy Alderson should trade Carlos Beltran (and Jason Isringhausen, and any other players who do not factor into the Mets’ 2012 plans) to whoever will give him the best deal if the Mets have not worked their way into the wild card race by the trade deadline.

I won’t be able to root for Beltran if he goes to the Yankees or the Phillies, but that shouldn’t stop Alderson from taking the best offer.

  3. The Yankees don’t want Betran, They need PITCHING!..We have none of that!

We need to trade these guys before the trade deadline! If we get to close to it we begin to lose leverage. We trade them when we can get good deals!

WILDCARD paul?…Did you say wildcard?..Certainly you are kidding!…We have to get out of the basement first!

    LETS GO METS!

    1. Don’t look now, but the Mets could get out of last place today. They’ve got a lot of teams in front of them, but the Mets are not far enough off the pace for the wild card to say they out of it in May.

      1. Yea verily, they COULD have gotten out of last place today, but they blew the opportunity.

I hate always coming off as being in rant mode, but come on. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it’s a friggin’ duck. If it blows a 7-game lead with 17 to play, misses the playoffs the next 4 years running, and follows up with a 7-game losing streak in mid-April, it’s not a very good baseball team.

  4. Trade whomever wherever if the price is right. That getting within 2 games of .500 and only being TIED for last place has people calling for Alderson & Co. to tread slowly only serves to demonstrate just how bad things have gotten.

  5. sadly, the nucleus, as much as we’ve come to love them, must be blown up…all vestiges of willie, jerry and charlie samuels must be rid from this team, as a flea wash would work on a dog

face it (like sparks wisely intones), this team isn’t going anywhere, and hasn’t since c-belt stared at strike three in the bottom of the 9th in 06

trade reyes, beltran, wright, johan…they can bring back, most likely, some very valuable pieces/chips; it would be nice to unload frankie, but no one’s going to trade for him, especially with that vesting option; fragile-mart and angel are nice players who can’t stay healthy; bay has never fit in, but his contract can’t be moved either; daniel murphy would be a nice pinch hitter/DH for an AL team, but you might only get an old shoe for him in trade; the pitching staff is cobbled together, and it looks like the reclamation projects aren’t going to last…i’d keep neise, but dickey has been a disappointment after a nice season last year; paulino/thole aren’t cutting it behind the dish, and the bench is awful

pretty much the only guy who i wouldn’t trade, at any price, is davis

i don’t really follow the minors as much as i should, so i don’t know who is close/deserves a look now, but as much as i hate to say it — it’s time to toss in the towel on this whole bunch and try to start over…
