Mike Pelfrey: Mets blogger

I know there are things you can’t say if you’re actually on the team, but let’s break down Mike’s opinions one by one.

“It’s unrealistic for anybody at the end of last year to come in and say, ‘The Mets, this is a one-year thing, next year we’re going to win it all.”   Yep.  Pretty much the sentiment of every fan last off-season. Even the most optimistic fans were topping out at maybe a Wild Card, especially if Mike Pelfrey (of all people) could win 17.

“The way this year has gone, [the fans] probably don’t want me back.”   Yep, I have definitely seen thaton blogs and twitter.  Check.

“This organization is headed in the right direction.  The front office has done a lot of smart things, and in the end this organization is going to have a chance to be in the playoffs every year.”  Has anyone seen any pro-Sandy Alderson blog posts?  Yes you have.  Check.

“I didn’t have the year I wanted to have — it’s not anywhere close to what I set for myself.  There’s a month and a half left for me to turn it around, and make it respectable in my mind.”  In other words, he has man’d up about his shortcomings and plans to play better.  Buy this man a t-shirt.
….

For those of you who made sad-faces at me when I explained “the math” back in April, let’s take a look again.  Since going 5-13 the Mets have gone 53-47 which is a nice neat 100 games and is .530 ball….that will get you 86 wins over the course of a season.  Not bad at all, but not enough to make up for a slow start.  Those games in April count too.

Unfortunately for Colactus the injury bug has stayed at Citi for another year and although a lot can happen between now and April, it’s unclear who will be at 2B and two of the three OF spots….oh and SS, there’s that isn’t it?

I’m still loving this collection of guys in Mets uniforms and still watch every night.  Fun season. Best in a while.
