I don’t care what people think

“I don’t care what people think,” Reyes said afterward. “A lot of people told me, ‘Don’t play today.’

“I want to stay in the game, but they (the fans) have to understand what’s going on. They have to feel happy about it if I win the batting title. I do that for the team, for the fans, too, because they’ve been supporting me all the way through.”

“One thing I do all the time is play 100% every day,” Reyes said. “It is what it is. I went 1-for-1, we won the game, so that’s good.”

via Jose Reyes gets hit, leaves game early; wins batting title.

  1. You don’t help the team win by going 1-1 and having your backup come in. I guess Jose didn’t feel he was good enough to win the batting title if he had to hit 3 or 4 times today. Now that’s a winning attitude I want on my team…may as well bring back Lastings.

    1. The thing that burns me up is how he took the easiest route possible. He BUNTED for the one extra hit before coming out. Apparently, taking a swing or playing the whole game was just too big a challenge, which is an all-too-perfect reflection of one of the biggest problems with this franchise in its current state.

Sure, we all know the Mets can’t handle pressure, but to see one of their players so blatantly run from it surprised even me.

  2. Yesterday has left me with an awful taste in my mouth regarding Reyes. How is removing yourself from the game giving 100% and doing it for the fans? Totally lame move that actually led me to root for Braun last night.

  3. His quote has four sentances starting with the word “I”!!!

Last time “I” looked there is no “I” in team!

That says it all …”I” think!

    Congrats to RAYS!!!!!

  4. Keep screwing the fans like that and attendance will be below 2 million next year!

The only reason those 10 people showed up to the the Mets last game was to see “Jose “Bunt and Bolt” Reyes. What happens is you got there a little late? How to you explain that to your kid at the game?

I wish the frw people that stayed for that game all got up left when Jose did and they finished the game with nobody there!

Feel bad for the fans…Don’t buy the “Already Eliminated Ticket Package” for games July-Sept next year….includes the last game!

    1. On Tuesday night, Gary and Ron said words to the effect that Wednesday would be exciting and fans would come out and root for Reyes to win the batting title…they must have been surprised by the bolt…I heard the radio clip and Howie was in shock, though he rationalized it later as being ok.
