Hunting For Old Mets VHS Tapes (link)

Great idea by Ceetar

Why not put out a public service announcement during Mets games asking fans to check out what they have?  Set up a phone line and have some interns catalogue what people have.  Then offer free Mets tickets to anyone that sends in something new.  Before these VHS tapes, and VCRs, are lost forever we should recover what we can.  This doesn’t have to be limited to Kiner’s Korners or broadcasts.  If you open the door I bet you’d find some interesting stuff.  Mets appearances at Little League dinners, old appearances on news programs, and even some fun commercials.

I have mentioned on here a few times I have the 86/88 playoffs and would be happy to lend/donate them to my friends in Flushing.

  1. I can think of two reasons why the Mets aren’t doing this.

    1) Depending on the way the broadcasting contracts were structured, they may or may not have the rights to do anything with the footage.

    2) Consumer grade video is probably not up to television broadcast quality standards – particularly as networks want to push more HD programming.

    1. yeah paul i have thought the same about rights….but they do somehow make highlight films.

As for consumer grade video..there’s probably a way to package it cool. Send Ed kranepool down to “his basement” and do a late night cheesy show or such.
