In the N.L. East, Mets Are Likely to Go From Bad to Dreadful – NYTimes.com

Good morning.  i thought I’d depress you out of the box.

“Sandy’s not afraid to say, ‘If we’re not going to finish first, it doesn’t matter if we’re last,’ ” said an official of a rival team, who was granted anonymity so he could talk candidly about another team’s plans. “He’ll break it down if he has to. The question is, can it get by ownership?”

You know what…as much as I hate losing…as much as I think the mission should be to win the World Series every year….this is a mess, and we probably would be smart to eat some more crappiness.

If you don’t want to go to Flushing to watch a 90 loss team, then don’t.

I’ll be there with my son, enjoying the new uniforms, celebrating the 50th, rooting for Duda and Gee and Murph and Niese, and I’ll be there when all the frontrunners come back.

Sometimes a baseball game is just a day out in the sun.  I attend Cubs games every year and have a great time.  I root for the Cubs for three hours and it’s a good time.  I was at a Giants-A’s pre-season game and rooted for the Formerly’s for three hours.  It was fun.

On twitter yesterday I floated the “Omar” moves of signing Reyes, Fielder and C.J. Wilson.   Do you think that would win the east?  To me, it makes for three days of fun winter chat, a little buzz in March, and several more years of tied up payroll.

It’s fourth and long.  The right move is to punt.

  1. We have Eli as our quarterback and we’re in the last two minutes. If we punt, by the time we get the ball back the game may be out of reach.

That What Sandy Would Say quote is humorous, because it flies in the face of an ACTUAL quote by Alderson in which he states he didn’t come here to rebuild, play moneyball, or be small market.

Well said; it helps that this is a very likable bunch.

That said, not sure what there is left to “break down” other than Reyes and/or Wright. It’s conceivable that the front office is planning for the REALLY long term, in which case guys like Niese and Davis could wind up on the block. Not sure how likely that is though.

  3. Yeah 2012 is shaping up to be one on par with 1962. Whatevs though, if it’s for the betterment of the team going forward then I’m fine with it. We’re Mets fans, we’re used to this. I hope this will bring us to teh promised land sooner rather than when I’m dead
