CSI: METS BP JERSEY

(If you wound up here from Metsblog welcome and thanks for visiting.  The Mets confirmed that these are indeed the 2012 BP jerseys.  As far as I can tell there are only available at Citi Field so far.)

Finding that blue “BP LIKE JERSEY” sure has opened a great discussion of it is or it isn’t.

From Pete McNally in the comment section.

It’s definitely the 2012 Batting Practice jersey. I spoke with the retail manager at the Mets Team Store today. He confirmed that this is the BP jersey they’ll be wearing next season.

Now I don’t think Pete is trying to mislead us( I believe Pete) but until there is an official confirmation from the Mets  I am still going to choose my words carefully. Anyway, I decided to play a game of CSI:BP right now.

Last years BP jersey: Full pic, black on sleeve, and authenticity tag.

Here is the New Blue Mystery jersey: Full Pic, Orange on sleeve and Authenticity tag.

Oh yeah but there is also this merch tag on the jersey.

On both jerseys its made of the same material, the side panels on both are BP style, and even the the material that is orange on the sleeve is the same as the black material last year.

I also compared both of them to my LOS METS blue jersey. The Los Mets one’s material falls more in line with the on the field authentics and not the BP Style. The Los Mets jersey has the patch which is usually just on the “Pro” on the field jerseys. Also, I remember people trying to figure out how the LOS METS style jersey would be able to use as a BP jersey when they aren’t in line with all the other BPs. I then remembered that it was said the new BP jerseys would be similar to the LOS METS jerseys. No one ever said they would be exactly like them just without the LOS. I have a feeling, now this is only my opinion, that the Los Mets Style jersey(without the LOS) will be the Alternate style jersey to replace the black ones in 2013.

Los METS:

I have presented you guys with some evidence. What do you  think? I am leaning towards yes it is. But I am not going to make an official proclamation that it is the New BP Jersey.. But I sure do like it.

    1. The good news is, it looks like the M is straightened. The bad news…this is still not EXACTLY the classic Mets script from the past. At this point, the Mets should do what the Dodgers did a few years ago when their script had degraded…hire a graphic designer to restore it and issue the pattern to all apparel suppliers with directions to discard all old patterns. The image shows the new BP on top and a 1982 road alt on bottom with what I consider to be the true Met script.

      1. The script isn’t that big of a deal. The Mets do not need to bring a graphic designer in to redesign it. It seems very nitpicky to keep going on and on about the M. Black unis mostly gone, check. Black drop shadow gone, check. Hybrid hats gone, check. Jerseys look clean now and the the colors pop now. The M can be the concession in the treaty of flushing to the Mets from us fans.

      2. Steve, if you had even a lick of sense, you would realize there is no way the two images of logos you provided can be compared. One is on a pullover jersey, the other a button down. The difference in jersey construction requires the logos to be different. And your 1982 road alt doesn’t possess the “true Mets script”, it’s “M” protrudes over the “e”, which the Mets have never used on a placketed jersey. Even the 1978-81 two-button placket jerseys didn’t have the “M” over the “e”.

        1. 1) “Steve, if you had even a lick of sense”

I have never disrespected you or anyone here…please refrain from personal attacks.

          2) “there is no way the two images of logos you provided can be compared”

It is not ideal, but you can clearly compare the shape, thickness and angles of the individual letters.

          3) “Even the 1978-81 two-button placket jerseys didn’t have the “M” over the “e”.

          Looks like it did herehttp://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-2gf151WQ-A/TUtfDB_f_oI/AAAAAAAAC2M/xS5QiJwgcno/s320/john%2Bstearns.jpg

          4) “Also, the image you provided is an “alternate”, not the road version. There was not 1982 “road alt”

Absoutely there was a 1982 road alt

          Hubie Brooks 1982 Road alt

          Randy Jones 1982 Road alt

  1. Shannon, seeing as how the Mets used their BP jerseys in one game last season (a legal move according to the regulations), could these be the blue jerseys that will apparently be worked in sporadically throughout the season in games?
