Mr. Red: still seems familiar

I feel like I’ve seen this type of mascot somewhere.  Giant baseball head.  Goes by Mister.  I’m trying to remember where I’ve seen this.

Oh, by the way, the Reds – I am not making this up – have another completely original mascot. His name is Gapper.

Does anyone have any pictures of The Cincinnati Chicken?  That must exist too.

I wonder what else the Reds have.  I dunno, probbaly vampires.

  1. I wonder if the he existed in 1973 and made the road trip, if he would have squared off with Mr. Met in the Harrelson-Rose fight.

    1. The drawing of Mr. Red appeared in the 50s (the 1896 stache guy). Became a human in a suit in 80s. Stopped. Then another mr met ripoff in 1995. So says Wikipedia.

  2. The mustache-less version of the Reds guy goes back to the 70s  (used in alternate logos) and the one with the mustache goes back to the 50s. Seen here: http://www.sportslogos.net/team.php?id=56

I’m sure the old “Reds Police” mimeographed newsletters criticized those upstart Mets for appropriating their logo for a mascot. 🙂

  3. Another reason for me to hate cinci. (Did I mention I am also a Buckeye fan?)
