Are the Mets expecting to draw 2.5 million in 2012?

Hmmm, the Times just published an article at 1:53 and they wrote this..

S.&P. also described as “aggressive” the team’s preliminary projection that attendance will rise to 2.5 million in 2012 from 2.29 million last season. It said attendance was likely to keep falling and that a third of its luxury suites are up for renewal in 2012.

Wait, the Mets think they will draw 2.5 million this year?  They think attendance will go up?  Did the Times get that right?  My oh my the Mets are seemingly optimistic.

  1. So the S&P is now in the baseball scouting business projecting how well the team will do to arrive at their attendance projections? I wonder if they predicted the Cardinals would win the World Series and the Red Sox wouldn’t even reach the playoffs?

    1. They also missed the whole financial crisis…but I think it’s pretty easy to predict this will not be a “banner” year at Debits Field, aka “the Flush”.

    2. My 82 year mother could predict that the Mets are entirely unlikely to draw MORE fans in 2012 than they did in 2011.  My freaking dog could bark that prediction too.
