I own this 1862 Mets shirt. Yes 18-62.

This showed up on the MLB Shop website and a few readers brought it to my attention. I immediately ordered it and several hours later the listing had disappeared from the site.

I expected the order to be cancelled, but when I got home there was a box waiting for me.  I wondered what the hell I’d ordered (I tend to forget what I buy) and found this lovely surprise.

In case you’re thinking you’ll outsmart me – the New York Metropolitans lasted from 1880-1887 so it’s not that.  The National League was founded in 1876 so it’s not that either.

Nope, me and a bunch of people that also own New England Patriots Super Bowl 46 Champions gear are in luck and we have a rarity…which is cool, because I have been looking for this shirt since the days my buddy Quinn and I used to hang out in his basement. Quinn was a bit of a science nerd, but whoa the stories I could tell you about our adventures…

This shirt will likely be worn once, probably to a Uni Watch event.  Your move Paul Lukas.

Speaking of cool t-shirts, head on over to The 7 Line and get yourself one of these snazzy #imwith28 shirts if you are a fan of numbers divisible by seven.

  1. I do believe that Abraham Lincoln did in fact throw out the cerimonial first pitch on opening day at the Polo Grounds.
