Hmmm Mets hawking Opening Day tickets

Hmmm perhaps those of you predicting awful ticket sales are correct. I just got this email. I already have Opening Day tickets which the email mentions and they want me to buy more.

Hmmmm. Uh oh.

With the Mets Home Opener just over a week away, we would like to offer you an opportunity to purchase additional tickets for Opening Day on Thursday, April 5th at 1:10 p.m.

This offer will be available tomorrow, Wednesday, March 28 at 10 a.m.
through 11:59 p.m.

MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover will be accepted.

The Mets will honor the memory of Gary Carter on Opening Day with his family participating in a special pre-game ceremony prior to the season’s opener against the Atlanta Braves at 1:10 p.m.

If you have any questions, please contact your Account Executive directly or call our Ticket Office for assistance at (718) 507-TIXX.

  1. Wow! That is really kind of sad!….Having to beg people to go to opening day!…They must have jacked the ticket prices so high with that dynamice pricing stuff.

Well they sertainly looked awful in Spriing Training and will probably finish last.

You can’t charge major league prices and put a Double A team on the field!

  2. I went to the Met website and the cheapest ticket was $52!…Really?..

I had to justify giving them $8.00 for a spring training game….. A minor league team like the Mets should be charging $5.00

Have you looked at this team this spring?

We are the Houston Astros of the NL East!

  3. Anyway, the Mets have been doing this a lot in recent years.  Trying to sell packages and plans and slow-releasing tickets to things like Opening Day.

  4. Yeah, they shouldn’t have thrown the Carter memorial into the sales pitch either. Just reads wrong to me. That’s entirely separate from trying to move Opening Day units, and it comes across as opportunistic and kind of creepy. You’re selling tix to see Wright, Ike, Santana, Duda, Murph etc – and the minor leaguers! – not to a memorial.

    1. When do you propose they have a rememberance for Gary Carter then? “Aw man, those classless Mets didn’t do the right thing doing anything for Gary Carter on opening day”

Tom you are just one of those guys that will find faults no matter what the mets do. Do the Mets do bonheaded things from time to time? Heck yeah, but this is definitely not one of them.

      1. C’mon you’re misreading my comment! Of course they should honor Gary Carter on Opening Day! Who’s saying they shouldn’t?

What they shouldn’t do is use that memorial to try and move the unsold OD seats in special sales message to their list – *that’s* what seems hideously crass to this Mets fan of 40+ years.

        1. So it’s wrong to say hey there are tickets left if you want to be a part of opening day and to also honor Gary Carter?

And Shannon and I are definitely not too inside the ropes. The access we sometimes get is used to pass things onto other fans.

I am just getting tired of fans nitpicking every thing. If there was no blog and you and I were in a bar and this subject came up I would still ask the same question. The Mets are damned if they do and damned if they don’t in a lot of fans eyes no matter what.

      2. Shannon got pissed at me earlier on Twitter – but he misread the comment there as well. It’s the desperate marketing I object to in connection with the great Gary Carter, not the memorial. You guys are too “inside the ropes” these days!

    2. When I first read it, It did not strike me as opportunistic…I never gave it a thought…maybe I am just used to the non-stop promotion we are always exposed to.

I don’t hink it is a big deal…if a Gary Carter fan didn’t know about the memorial and just found out in this email, then they are hapy to find out and go to help honor Kid. A young kid who never saw kid won’t care anyway. The extra 500 fans won’t make or break anything for the Mets. As a Met fan, it would actually be embarrasing if they gave a Carter memorial and many seats were empty.
