Mets fans and media to obsess over Marlins’ shortstop all day

This man plays shortstop for the Miami Marlins.  He does not love you (see last appearance at Citi Field).

You will hear a lot about him today.  I’ll be at the game (bundled up in my new snazzy dugout jacket) and will tweet until the (completely hypothetical non-existent just joking) Verizon Jamming Device makes AT&T stop working magically at the first pitch.

  1. If the Mets were still winning like they were during the first week of the season, it would be a lot easier to say “Jose who?”

Since they’re not, let’s embrace the distraction of Jose Reyes’ return… otherwise, just think how much more attention we’d be paying to Ike Davis’ early-season hitting struggles…

  2. Wow almost no sense of Mets history here – disappointing. One of the all-time Mets greats – and he’ll always be that.

    1. I would say he was one of the all-time great players for the Mets…but not one of the all-time Mets.  It may be semantics but he proved to me during that last game (I was there) that he didn’t care about the franchise or the fans.  Buddy Harrelson did not have the stats that Jose did as a Met, but he will always be a far greater Met to me (as an example)

      1. Nah I disagree totally – one AB versus nine years. I’ve followed the Mets since 1969 and no single player “left it on the field” more than Jose Reyes. Others as much – Gary Carter leaps to mind – but no one more. He’s not only a great player, Jose Reyes is a great all-time – and should have been retained as face of the franchise.
