Collins plays Ike with .622 OPS but Mets Murphy gets to rot on bench

I was fine with average, home run and RBIs. You went .300/30/100 and you were pretty damn good. Then everyone looked the other way when everyone had really good workout plans in 1998 and ruined the numbers. Then you video game kids ruined statistics the way you ruined pinball (the scores are way too high).

But, I can play your stupid “advanced stats” game. You’d have to be INSANE to play a first baseman with an OPS of .622 right? Or with whatever the hell an OPS+ of 73 is. Looks like the player in question is good for 11th in the league.

But hey let’s let him work things out. Keep grinding.

Meanwhile, my boy Murph had a bad month and went from starter to Burkhardt telling us last night that Murph was going to have to find some at bats at other positions? One guy gets half a summer to work it out and the other guy is buried? Murph may be slumping but his (stupid) “advanced” stats of OPS .659 and “whatever the hell OPS+ of 85 is” are better than you know who. At least Murph is 10th. Isn’t first base a positon you’re supposed to get some production from? Stick a fat guy over there who can hit and not do anything else? I don’t mind lettink Ike work things out but why isn’t Murphy afforded the same consideration?
