Mt. Metsmore

Life continues to be endlessly busy around these parts.  Before I head off and run (literally run) here’s something I have been meaning to get to for days.  Here’s the T-Shirt Tuesday tee.  Name the faces.

My first guess was (l. to r.) actor William Devane

Bud Harrelson

and Mike Piazza

So once I figured it out (have you yet?) it got me wondering if perhaps there are licensing concerns.  Can the Mets just make Tom Seaver t-shirts willy nilly?  Do you have to contact the Gil Hodges estate to use his image?  Maybe there’s an approved image of Casey they are allowed to use?  No idea.  But the design got me wondering.

The webpage on which you can buy tickets does not identify who these faces are.  I guess they could be any generic royalty free depiction of any human.

I’m likely off the deep end here, but this is how my mind works.

  1. You have to get permission from any living person to use their image commercially. It’s more complicated if the person is dead, but California, at least, requires permission from the estate. The Mets would have to ask permission or risk a lawsuit.
