Dear Mets: why must you suck so badly?

Dear Mets,

Why must you suck so badly?

Couldn’t you just suck?

If you had decided to just suck when you were 7 games over .500 you cold have gone 3-4 every week and soft landed at something like 4 games under .500. That wouldn’t have been so bad.

Nope, you have decided you really want to suck. This thing where you lose, what is it, 5 of every 6…it’s very boring.

You can take a scoreless game to the 9th but not one of us believes that you will win.

Down 4-1? I know the game is over. You’re not going to score. I know it, you know it.

Why do you do this to me?

I used to think Mets was a TV series written by Greg Prince but now I realize that Greg has been replaced by Damon Lindelof.

Every year you suck me in with new storylines. Hey this Kirk kid looks awesome! Hey this Ike Davis guy might be Mark Grace! Let’s make R.A. Dickey super-human! Let’s inexplicably let Santana throw a career high amount of pitches so we can all get our buzz on for 2 days!

These plots all go nowhere. Kirk is gone. Ike might be Dave Kingman. You’re afraid to tell us the truth about Santana because if you grab another pitcher from Buffalo they are going to tell you to take your team to the Pacific Coast League.

This all goes nowhere.

A winter of venom, a spring of tricking me, but in the end all the naysayers are going to be correct.

I see the standings. You want to finish last don’t you? You want to finish last.

Why?

Why are you going to let some stupid Marlins fan be able to make fun of me?

Why are you going to leave me hanging on twitter all winter without a leg to stand on?

Why can’t ANYONE pitch?

When do Faraday and the other-other-others show up to waste even more time until this gets good?

Will it ever get good again?

Am I trapped in some sort of limbo?

I WANT TO STOP BLOGGING.

You need to win the World Series while dressed nicely. That’s our deal. Please let me go. Let’s do the All Star Game, Banner Day and win a ring so I can leave the island.

Please.

  1. We all kinda knew they were overachieving in April and May, but this isn’t a return to the mean, this is a disaster. It’s crossed over into “Man up and play better” territory. The team looks resigned to defeat lately, the polar opposite of what they were a couple of months ago. What the hell happened? (OK, *besides* Bay coming back.)

You can’t really blame Collins for the malaise, but any efforts he’s made to correct it have failed miserably. On their best day, the Mets were a wild card contender, so if they lose, they lose. Whatever. What’s chapping my hide right now is that they’re carrying themselves like losers. They looked better in loses earlier in the season than they look in wins now, on the rare occasion one happens. Collins’ message of “No matter what, you’re all still major league ballplayers” seems to have gone out the window to never be seen again.

  2. All the good will built up this spring has evaporated. I am very angry that Management never even tried to make a move to stabilize this team when it still might have helped. I no longer believe anything that Sandy Alderson says and I now resent even listening to him. Its like bing in a car dealership when they pass you back and forth between salesman and “managers.” The Wilpons and their mouthpiece are playing us for fools and I really, really resent this attitude.
