About Dickey and the Mets: This

The Mets: They know Dickey is unique and very good. They’d like to keep him for the future, so they don’t want him getting to free agency one year from now. However, because of age, over exposure, etc. they have doubts he can be as good next season as he was in 2012; and they’re very skeptical he can be as good in 2014 and 2015 as he was in 2012. They don’t want to be paying him $13 million a year if he falls apart, a because it’s money that could be better spent elsewhere, and b it makes trading him nearly impossible be it now, next summer or the years after that.

  1. If the Mets were a real big market team, they’d simply just extend him at close to the numbers he’s asking. RA Dickey, over the last 3 years, has been a better pitcher than CC Sabathia.

    Think about this line:

    616 IP
    2.95 ERA
    1.15 WHIP
    3.12 K/BB
    39-28

    That’s no small sample size.

  2. The contracts that other teams have been handing out this winter make R.A. Dickey’s reported demands seem pretty reasonable.
