This needs to change

Law enforcement officials said the weapons used by the gunman were a Sig Sauer and a Glock, both handguns. The police also found a Bushmaster .223 M4 carbine at the scene that they believe belonged to the gunman. (via NY Times)

I started this blog to try to change things and to foster discussion.  My topic of choice was and is the Mets.

But every now and then something comes along that I cannot and will not ignore.

Someone in Washington needs to lead.  This needs to change.

You don’t need an M4 carbine.

You aren’t the only one between us and Breaking Dawn.  There is no Zombie Apocalypse.  If you are killing deer how about giving the deer half a chance.

Someone needs to lead.  This needs to change.

As I write this my kids aren’t home yet.  One is out at her first dance and I hope she has a great night.  The others are closer in age to the children that were murdered today.  My kids are going to get a great big hug.

Someone needs to lead.  This needs to change.

….

We didn’t post anything this afternoon because the tone didn’t seem right.  I don’t know what or when is the right time to…I hate the term move on…let’s use continue…so tonight at 10pm I will post the Jersey of the Day, and if RA is traded before then we’ll pick up there.

I welcome your comments on this issue.  Even if you all call me names at least we will have started a discussion.

I don't care how conservative you are, how could anyone support the expiration of the assault weapons ban?

I don't have my own children so I can't relate to those who are parents but I think it's fair, for me to say, that this is a sad day.

Thanks, Shannon. Like everyone, my heart is heavy and my stomach is sick with the loss of 18-20 school children, plus the adults who tried in vain to prevent this tragedy. Which is why, I am pleading for change. If we don't repeal repeal second amendment constitutional right to bare arms and begin to control guns, we will mourn again at another school yard, movie theater and shopping mall. We don't need to defend our homes. If you live in a bad neighborhood, move out. If you live in a good one, then buy an alarm; and let the cops do their job. There's no need to sleep with a gun under the pillow. The Government's not coming to steal your home. If they were, your gun wouldn't stop 'em. It would make more sense to pack the gun in your kid's lunchbox. That's where the violence lives. I can live with Plaxico shooting himself in the leg, but I can live with us killing kids. That's exactly what will happen if we let NRA fight for their right to recreational hunt. Leave the westerns on the big screen. Stop being a cowboy,

You have stated this very eloquently--nothing more needs to be said. My heart breaks for the families affected by this terrible act.
