MLS, Mets donors not listed on Peralta filings – Queens Chronicle: Queens Government & Political News

I am not smart enough to understand all this but I found it interesting.  The Queens Chronicle reports…

Five individuals connected to contentious development projects in state Sen. Jose Peralta’s D-East Elmhurst district have donated to his borough president campaign, though his disclosures with the city’s Campaign Finance Board do not reveal the connection. All told, two executive-level officials from the New York Mets and three from Major League Soccer contributed this month a total of $1,780 to Peralta’s campaign.

The donations come at a time when Queens residents and elected officials are considering the creation of a $350 million, 25,000-seat MLS stadium in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, as well as a 1.4 million-square-foot shopping mall next to Citi Field to be built by the Mets’ parent company Sterling Equities.

The article identifies Saul Katz as donating $500 and Richard Wilpon as another contributor.

Interesting, that’s all.

  1. Odd that they story doesn’t say one way or the other if any other donors’ information wasn’t listed. If these were the only ones, it would seem intentional. If there were more, it probably was just an oversight.

Frankly, $1700 divided among 5 people doesn’t strike me as worthy of a cover-up. Katz’s contribution, the largest of the 5 and one not subject to the cap, still only amounts to 7/10s of a percent of the Senator’s campaign funds. If Peralta can be bought that cheaply, we need to pass our own hat. 😉
