Farewell Dave Howard….Dave is leaving the Mets

I am sad to hear that Dave Howard is leaving the Mets. If you are a long time reader you know that I am fond of Dave and we even hung out at a game together.

I am a little busy tonight but did want to say “goodbye” to Dave and wish him the best.

Meanwhile…

The Mets indicated that team executives Paul Asencio, Leigh Castergine and David Newman will now join Mike Landeen in reporting to Jeff Wilpon to absorb Howard’s role for the near future. Wilpon also will pick up some of Howard’s duties.

…which I find curious. Dave had a pretty senior position to not replace. I assume Dave made a nice six-figre salary. Hmmm.

Also, my two cents is that in a good organization there is some senior manager who keeps the owners/senior executive away from the worker bees so that the worker bees can do their thing.

Let’s say Executive A thinks Jeff is off-the-rails with something. Maybe Dave could be candid with Jeff. Maybe now without that buffer the executives can’t be as candid. I don’t know how things worked in the Dave Howard Era but it’s a scenario I can imagine.

Well Dave, thanks for the laughs and we’ll always have Banner Day. See you at the Garden.

    1. I was just thinking the same thing. Consolidating job responsibilities and new reports for Jeff–this has disaster written all over it.

  1. So, the Mets are now not replacing Sr. Executives and letting the owner’s spoiled son assume some of his responsibilities. Hmmm…I’m curious as to the motive? I could be positive and say this will keep him busy and out of Sandy’s hair. Or I can be realistic, and say, Jeff has always been out of touch with the fanbase and at least Dave had started to listen to the fans (thanks to Shannon/Mediagoon). Now, it may start to veer back to “ownership-decision” as the rationale for whatever crazy idea they try to implement. Can’t wait for Brooklyn Dodger night at Ebbets, I mean Citi…

  2. Poor Dave, can he get a job where the son of the owner isn’t his boss? Actually I can’t decide who is worse, Jeff or Jim Dolan. I have to go with Dolan because of the Isiah Thomas man crush he has. Unless Jeff still takes calls from Art Howe on issues……

  3. It is Brooklyn/LA Dodger night every night in Robber Baron Field. It has been that way since day one…they even dress like them every day. Despite the fact that last year we were told it would be different. Of course, they intended there to be a Mets’ HOF in the building all along, to…

  4. They are just circling the wagons in the attempt to cover for the void Dave leaves. Reminds me of Larinda DeRoulet taking over the Mets upon her mother Joans death and handing some responsibilities over to her daughter Beebee who’s main contribution was to suggest that fans return foul balls to save money on supplies Hopefully at some point a replacement will be had to do just as you suggest buffer the malfeasance of the Wilpons!
