Man I can’t believe they aren’t retiring Piazza’s number.

The $3 billion development is slated to proceed in three phases. First, the joint venture will raze the auto shops and junk yards that populate the area east of Citi Field and clean the toxic soil there. They will then build a hotel and retail along 126th Street, construct the mall in the western parking lot of the stadium and transfer those lost spaces to a paved, temporary lot behind 126th Street.

The article quantifies the affordable housing units at 875.

According to the article, if the housing is not built the partnership would have to pay a $35 million penalty.  The article says the city is not obligated to build the ramps and if the ramps are not built then the joint venture is “off the hook.”

  1. I’d love for the Citi Field parking lot to remain the way it is, but that’s not gonna happen. I guess what I want to know is — when is all this due to start? I imagine the 2014 season won’t be effected. But 2015? After that?
