Murphy Is The One You Keep, Not Trade | The John Delcos New York Mets Report

From Saturday.  Y’all should read Delcos every day.  He’s pretty much a lock for the Mazzy for Blog Of The Year.

I strongly disagree with MetsBlog and view Murphy as one of the most valued players on the Mets and by that I mean the relationship between his performance and what he gets paid. Even at $4 million he gives the Mets more than double that in value.

His value for this season is over $11 million dollars based on his 2.5 fWAR which is second only to David Wright. When you consider that he’s playing at a somewhat premium position, the value is even more as compared to a corner outfielder or first baseman.

Collins is right when he says that Murphy is the only legitimate professional hitter in his lineup right now. Can you imagine this lineup without him?

  1. I’d be very much against trading Murphy. Second base is a tough spot to get offense out of; he’s in the Top 10 among that position in nearly every countable stat. How is that not worth $4 million (which MetsBlog thinks he might get paid next year, which they speculate Sandy might view as more than Murph is worth)? It’s bad enough the fans in general seem to not appreciate Murphy, but the front office too?

If Harvey on the shelf means we punt 2014, so be it. Murph can — and should — be a part of this team for 2015 and beyond.
