  1. This is like the Reyes move (NOTE: Reyes is a much better player than Murphy). The Mets do not think they need him because they can replace him with a younger, cheaper player. You would think they would learn from their mistakes with Reuben Tejada.

  2. You do have younger/cheaper options in Young and Flores. It seems very clear they have no use for Flores and Clueless Collins has already declared publicly that he expects him to be in AAA in 2014. I could live with Young at 2B if they get two real corner outfielders and a real first baseman. You have to remember that the Mets have pitching to deal and Murphy…not a whole lot else. You have to give to get. Murphy is a solid player but I think what he provided this year is what you will get going forward. I don’t fear he’ll morph into the next Jeff Kent. If you had to give up Murphy as part of a bigger package to get, for example, Troy Tulowitzi, you do that deal in a heartbeat.

  3. No way! They have to keep Murphy. He’s been one of the most consistent player the last couple of years. Wright will keep him on the team.

  4. I think Murphy is probably gone too, but it will have as much to do with his low walk rate as his salary.

I’ve reached the point where I like most of the players on the team, but I won’t be terribly upset if any of them aren’t back in 2014. I just want to see some visible signs of improvement.

  5. Why would you trade Murphy? 13 hrs 78 rbis over 180 hits and he’s
in his prime and he’s become a good 2nd baseman! You think Young
can replace 78 rbis, I don’t think so and Terry didn’t even play
young at 2nd so do the mets really know what they have if they
trade Murph? If Murphy goes then I would really like Flores to
get a shot there? Flores would replace the rbis and then some and
he would hit at least 13 hrs or more! Keep Young in LF unless you
replace his speed at the top of the order and trade for a big bat in RF, sign the big bopper from Cuba for first and go out and
get an offensive SS who is at least a decent fielder like Drew
etc and the mets will have some power to a lot of power and rbis at first, 2nd, SS, third, catcher and LF and who knows what Lagares will devolope into?
