He did not cite any resources beyond the $40 million or so that he will be able to redeploy from expired contracts to sign free agents and retain arbitration-eligible players like Daniel Murphy, Dillon Gee and Eric Young Jr. He did not say if the Wilpons could (or would) tap into any money available from their real estate and investment businesses. The team still has $250 million in bank loans that must be repaid next year, Capital New York has reported, among other debts.
