So far the Mets may have lost a customer

As I mentioned in the previous post, I just don’t feel like getting angry or ranty.

The Mets have changed their ticket packages, and the current packages don’t interest me.  Supply and Demand.

What I can’t figure out is why they would take the Promenade off the table in the 10 game Pick Your Own.  It’s not like they are going to sell the place out.

What I also can’t figure out is why they even opened up my mind to doubt.  Had they had a 10 game Promenade pick your own they would have gotten a sale out of me yesterday.  Now I am looking at it wondering why I should even get a plan at all.

The Saturday plan doesn’t work for me as-is.  I travel for business.  We play soccer in the fall.  So why would I buy 10 games when I am going to eat 4 right away.  yeah I guess I could swap some – but again, why make me go through the hoops and why make me think.

Last year I emailed my ticket rep my 15 games and we were done in 5 minutes.  My new rep seems very very nice, and he didn’t make this policy, but my point is why would Leigh and the Mets even make me think about this.

I went from a probable renewal to now I told Junior I might not get tickets.

This isn’t a “screw the Mets” rant.  I will go to games.  I might even wind up getting one of the 8000 packages that will  reveal themselves before the opener.

But on this Thursday in October when we don’t even know who will be on the team – why mess with a sure thing?

Are you planning on buying a 10 or 20 game plan?  I’d like to hear from you in the comments.

  1. So torn. First off, we don’t know what promotions are available or what those dates will be. I’m normally a 40 game plan holder and liked the every other game option. Not sure if the new packages will fit into my summer plans. Really have to think it over before I commit. It’s a lot of money again and from all the losses I saw this past season, it was a big ripoff and am really not a fan of the owners. Also, once the front office started giving away tickets for cheaper than what I had paid…and for better seats that I had purchased for higher price…it made me feel foolish for having invested in the 40 game plan. We had only 3 “perks” available from what I recall and only 1 was on a Saturday when I could go.
Actually, thanks for this post Shannon. You’re really helping me make up my mind about renewing…

  2. I did a 6game pack last year. Promenade Resrv. The per price for each ticket was a good deal. Not sure about this 10game pack if I can’t secure a Promenade seat.

  3. I’m doubtful of a scenario where I don’t get ANY package. I like having tix ahead of time. I like being able to plan. I drive ~2 hours from Bristol to Queens for games and attend a fair share – 24 this year not including every event for all-star week. I’ve had the Saturday Plan at Shea, I bought into the Saturday (Plus) plan in ’09 and have rolled with the punches every year since. Call me stubborn. Having said all of that…I’m less than enthusiastic about the team forcing me down into a 10 game pick-a-plan (but not in Prom) because EVERY Sat isn’t ideal either as we have other activities to engage in from Spring through Fall each year. OR force me into a 20-game pick-a-plan because I can’t commit to their schdule…but wait, now I just jumped from a 15 game commitment to 20 right off the bat. Doesn’t seem ideal. On 10/10/13 I’m feeling the same way – but I’m hoping the Mets change my mind. It won’t take much.

  4. I don’t live in or near NYC, but I feel like at this point, if I lived there, I’d just set aside $X and go to games as it was convenient to me, and as the promotions made it worthwhile.

  5. I was going to renew my 20-game plan until they switched it to all weekend games. Going on Saturday/Sunday is a major inconvenience travelwise. Looks like I’ll have to pick my own.

  6. I too am not fully sold that I will be purchasing a ticket plan for 2014. I guess I will have to see what type of 20 game pack I can put together since the 10 game pack is no longer an option for me.

  7. I too don’t really get why they scrapped the 15-game plans. My sister and I were Saturday plan folks at Shea, and had long planned for a comparable plan at Citi (the “Saturday plus” didn’t really count.) So the 15-game plan was a perfect fit. Every Saturday home game, plus two games to use whenever. I don’t really get why they did away with it. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, and it didn’t seem broke to me.

All that being said, I think we’ll do the 10-game plan. Nine Saturdays, plus Opening Day (a not-to-be-overlooked perk, as I believe Opening Day has never been included in the 15-game or “Saturday plus” plans). We’ll miss four Saturdays, true, but one of those is the first Saturday in April (when the weather tends to be just too freakin’ cold), and another one’s against the Marlins, who we’ll be seeing on another Saturday and who don’t figure to have any particular names I’d be dying to see live anyway. And even if we want to do all four other Saturday games, we can buy them individually for less than the difference in price between the 10-game and the 20-game. The 20-game I forsee would just result in too many missed games. And yeah, you could exchange, but for what? We’d already have all the Saturdays. Plus, money is a consideration here too.

So that’s what I’m planning. But again, I still wish they’d kept the 15-game option.

  8. I stop doing packages a while back. Why would i put myself through all the hoops when i can walk up to the stadium and get great seats the day off. This year, i got 12 dollar field tickets for my son and I on line. Field level. Mets and most sports franchises have outpriced the common fan. Sad.

  9. I couldn’t have said it better myself Shannon. I was already leaning towards not getting a plan this year and this clinched it. Between single game special offers and StubHub I can get better seats for a cheaper price, and I can wait until we are within the 5-day forecast window to make sure that the weather is good, everyone feels well, no business emergencies, etc…

  10. i haven’t renewed yet. i usually get a 20 pack. i think its crappy that we are loyal and buy tickets through the worst of times but people who are not can buy better packages than me the closer we get to the season start. shouldn’t we be rewarded for our loyalty instead of punished? i feel like they take for granted that i’m a dummy and going to buy tickets regardless so they target their marketing efforts towards everyone else. then to boot they offer special ticket deals at the end of the season and people can buy tickets for less than i paid months before.

  11. Until the Mets stop sucking and we confirm that the Wilpons have more than two nickels to rub together, why would anyone buy a ticket plan? Especially six months in advance?!

  12. I was a Saturday Plan Holder for 25 years. Started in the Mezz, Sect. 18 and over the years worked my way down to the Loge, Sect.10, Great Seats!!!

When $iti Field opened things changed. They had a so called Saturday Plan but it was now 15 games. Seats were assigned not by seniority but by first come first serve! It also included 5 middle of the week games that nobody wanted. We figured we give it a try. Boy where we wrong, and have not been back since.

You guys have to make a stand. You all talk and complain but when push comes to shove you reup! Why would ANYBODY invest in this team now, AS IS????

If I were the Wilpons, I wouldn’t change a thing know that suckers like you will buck up and take it.

  13. In all fairness to the Mets, it’s not just them.
My friends and I have gotten the package from PNC Park (we live in Pirates country) and got the Inter-league games and all the Mets games. The Pirates also have priced us out and taken away the cheaper packages. And before anyone says that it’s because they are a playoff team, this was before this year.
Yes, by eliminating the small packages and by making the customers jump through hoops they have made the entire expericence less fan friendly but it’s not just the Mets, it’s throughout baseball.

  15. Why on earth would you make a commitment to this team in October?…Really?

Let’s see if the Mets are going to make a commitment to the fans.

You people who are doing this are the problem! It’s moves like this that allows this ownership to continue to take advantage of the fans!
