MetsPolice.com website traffic numbers for 2013

This is one of my favorite posts to do every year.

As the blog heads into covering it’s 7th season of Mets baseball (starting with 2008), once again we had a high in traffic.  I have always played my cards up when it comes to the numbers…I know some other blogs do and have numbers I believe (congrats Matt Cerrone!) and others post numbers that make me laugh because they are absolutely ridiculous to claim.  But these are the Mets Police numbers (via Google Analytics), and I’m very happy to show continued growth for the site.

There tends to be a seasonality to the blog.  Traffic picks up around February 1st, when football ends and people start thinking about baseball.  Then it starts out strong until the annual late-July, early-August collapse…and then kind of settles in at the “off-season” traffic until February.   That’s where we are now, and there hasn’t been much to blog about.  So we sail along with our off-season “filler” material (caps and cards etc) until baseball resumes.

Digging deeper, as I surmised, you are most likely what I call “Generation Piazza” and there is a 54% chance you are male.

What is scary to me is the amount of the fan base that probably doesn’t clearly remember 1986.  When I hang with someone like Darren from The7Line, obviously a huge Mets fan but also ten years younger than I am, and he doesn’t remember ’86 in vivid detail the way I do it is pretty scary.

Behind the scenes I am forever tweaking the site to keep it as modern as possible.   I can’t believe none of you busted my chops for adding BLACK into the color scheme, but that’s how the modern blogs are trending so go ahead and make fun of me for being a hypocrite.  I also changed the comments system over to Lyve

Thanks to Keith and Dan for helping out on the site…and Mike V and Ceetar and the others who chip in here and there.

Thanks to Paul Lukas, Matt Cerrone, Michael Baron and Adam Rubin for tons of links.

And thank YOU for reading the site.

abc block logoIf you’d like to help us out, right now the focus is on promoting the Queens Baseball Convention beyond our own followers.  If you’d be kind enough to help us get the word out, sharing with your own Facebook wall is probably the easiest way to help.  The link is Queens Baseball Convention and there is also a Facebook page (like and share helps).  (And of course, buying tickets!)

I’m going to keep doing this site until the stated goal of seeing the Mets win the World Series while wearing proper uniforms (winning Game 7 in the camos would not count).  Then a few posts about the parade and then I go away.

Hopefully that will be this year and this will be the last New Year’s Day column.  We’ll know in 10 months.

Happy New Year!

  1. Yeah I noticed the black bars – you’re letting it creep in Shannon, that’s how it starts.  I really hope I don’t have to start a MetsPolicePolice site

  2. I noticed too, but I have been to encompassed by the QBC stuff to nag you about it. For now…
