  1. No. 7 of course represents both the longest tenured Met and the greatest SS in team history….not that they’ll retire it (would have eventually pre “the Plan,” sadly).

  2. Bench coach  Bob Geren is still listed as No. 7, so Jose Reyes & Ed Kranepool fans shouldn’t get too excited. Likewise, Tim Teufel still is listed for No. 18, so that’s still in circulation.

    Out of respect for his major league career, the no-hitter and September 2008, I think it’s fitting to keep No. 57 out of circulation until somebody actually asks for it.

    Nos. 8, 17, 24 & 31 are the only ones that seem to be unofficially retired on a semi-permanent basis.
