Five things Terry Collins already told you about the 2014 Mets but you didn’t listen

An old friend once told me that people will tell you everything about themselves in the first ten minutes.  The problem is that most of us aren’t paying attention to what is being said.

On Friday, Terry Collins did a press conference which aired on SNY and he threw out a bunch of notions that I will think will all come to pass.

1.  Your starting first baseman is Ike Davis.

At least once he threw in there “..and Lucas too” or something like that.  He clearly wasn’t thinking about Lucas Duda.

2.  Your starting first baseman is not Lucas Duda.  Lucas Duda is not your anything.

Terry did mention that Lucas is a big guy and that losing ten pounds wouldn’t be noticeable.  He mentioned that lucas mitt have to get some ABs playing the OF this spring.  Lucas won’t be playing much in 2014 because…

3.  Eric Young Jr. is going to play a lot.

He clearly likes EY.  EY’s name was talked about a lot.  There was even a “scenario” where Murphy plays first.  I wouldn’t stock up on Lagares jerseys just yet.

4.   Jon Niese is the Opening Day starter

Terry discussed Wheeler’s desire to pitch the opener and then went into Manager-Speak about how Opening Day matters only once blah blah and then said the word Niese.

5.  Murph is going to get messed with as usual

Did you know Murph can play third if Wright gets hurt?  Did you know Murph plays first?  Terry sure does.  The upside is it seems like Murph will be in the lineup someplace.
