Banner Day is going to be a bust when it should be Thanksgiving

I kinda loved this.
I kinda loved this.

I see all the signs.  Well I see the lack of signs.

As of this writing (8:37am) I am unaware of any Mets press release about Banner Day.  I am not aware of any judges.  I have not seen Brandon and Alexa tell me about it (although I didn’t watch last night’s game.)

And yet, I can’t kill the Mets.   The Mets are having Banner Day, and they had it last year too and only 90-something Banner Makers and their families could be bothered.

So if I’m the Mets, yeah maybe I fish for Colon Poster Lovers with my messaging.  I get it.  Maybe 200 Colon lovers come, which is more than the 90 Banner lovers.

And this is sad.

Banner Day should be Thanksgiving for Mets fans.  I’m telling you that anyone who has done Banner Day 2.0 these last few years has loved it.  There is really a communal experience being with this set of fans who take time to make signs.

As crazy as it sounds, the line outside Citi Field is my favorite part of the day.  It’s a time to see who showed up and to check out their banners.   These are people you know, or kind of know, or sort of know on twitter, or don’t know at all but they made a cool sign.  And that’s a good time.

But I have been following this team for a long time and I have been blogging for 6 seasons now.  I know there will be about 80 banners on Sunday, we’ll quietly walk through an empty stadium, past some last minute judges…..and that’s sad.

I hope you’ll join us.
