DANIEL MURPHY NAMED TO THE 2014 NL ALL-STAR TEAM

FLUSHING, N.Y., July 6, 2014 – Major League Baseball tonight announced that Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy was selected to his first All-Star team as National League Manager Mike Matheny’s selection. The 85th Major League Baseball All-Star Game will take place July 15 at Minnesota’s Target Field.

Murphy is the third Mets second baseman named to an All-Star Game. Edgardo Alfonzo was named in 2000 and Ron Hunt was on the 1964 and 1966 National League teams.

Murphy entered today second in the National League with 105 hits and tied for sixth with 29 multi-hit games. He also began the day third among NL second basemen with a .295 batting average, tied for fourth with 19 doubles, tied for second with 29 walks, second with 52 runs scored, tied for fourth with seven home runs and third with 11 stolen bases.
