The 1982 Mets: The most exciting team in town

Benjamin found this gem and I thank him for sending it in because it’s not like any of the other Mets Police “writers” posted anything today.  We need 79 guys on the masthead like that other blog has.

Anyway, I don’t recall this marketing slogan.

The most exciting team went on to be 65-97 with a slugger at first base (Kingman), a grinder at second (Wally), a home grown third baseman (Hubie), an imported slugger in LF (Foster), a kid who could run down anything in CF (Mookie) and even Mike Scott (that Mike Scott) in the pitching rotation!

(To this day my brain still can’t reconcile that the 1986 Mike Scott was the guy I watched in 1982.)

Across town, those unexciting Yankees were defending their AL pennant on their way to only 79 wins (with appearances by Yankees Lee Mazzilli and John Pacella

I’m telling you, if this team could add a Hall of Fame starter and some veteran leadership who knows how to win we could really have something in 1983!
