Mets T-Shirt enthusiasts are statistically unlucky

The Mets are 48-32 at home so far, thus if you buy a ticket and go see a game, you have a 60% expectation of seeing a Mets victory.

However, statistics show, that if you join the T-shrt Enthusiasts you only have a .500 chance of seeing a win at home so far.  Today the enthusiasts will try for the victory to get their home record to 5-4.

Expect complete garbage baseball today as nobody has a thing to play for.  You’ll see a lot of first pitch swinging, and a game played in under two hours.  Oh, and it’s a 3pm start for TV reasons (TV/MLB thought there would be exciting drama today.)

If you’re wondering, the Enthusiasts were 2-3 on the road.  The Mets were 41-40.

If you were just some fan who went to games for Free Shirt Fridays (and yesterday’s Game 1) you saw 8 wins and 7 losses – if I counted by hand correctly – which is a .533 winning percentage, also below expected value.

I suspect this has more to do with the Mets’ offense than the enthusiasts, but I like saying T-Shirt Enthusiasts, and find it an interesting quirk of stats.
