Mets fight Braves...in 1980 (video)

Good morning.   More generic content today (been decent so far, no?) as I focus on Real Job and Media Goon minds the store.

Here’s another awesome time capsule from 1980.  Go about 2:40 in and you’ll see some light fisticuffs between the Braves and the Mets.

Wait 20 seconds later and you’ll see the greatest Met

Behold: video of 1980 Mets games!

Thanks to Kevin for sending this over.  Wow wow wow.

Look how small everyone is.  That’s the baseball I remember before everyone started taking vitamins in 1995.

Ralph Kiner in his 80′s: charming.   Ralph Kiner in his 50′s wasn’t so good. Sorry.   Murph appears later – sounds great.

Who is that bum managing the team?  He’ll

Mets Police 70's Week: Lee Mazzilli the All-Star

A cool article from MLB.com remembering when Lee Mazzilli was in the All Star Game.

When Mazzilli was selected to the Midsummer Classic at age 24, many figured he would make a return trip to the game at some point in his career. But in 10 more seasons with five different teams, the outfielder and

Hey, what’s with that new header image at the top of the blog? It’s the image I will be using for 70′s week.   Randy from The Apple sent it over, and I’m not sure what’s that 70′s about it, the car isn’t for sure but there was sometihng about the color scheme and the

Megdal for GM on 'Better Seats, Lower Prices' (and some Mazzilli)

Howard Megdal who is running for Mets General Manager has a theory on the campaign, and how he will change it if he is elected as GM.  Under my Honor Among Bloggers code, it would not be cool to tell you what he came up with so you’ll have to read it here.

Medgal and I

Lee Mazzilli won a ring with the Mets

I spent the day reading more of the awesome Faith and Fear book and it bought back more of that stuff I of course know but it still zings my brain:

Lee Mazzilli won a ring with the Mets!

Lee was the All-Star on some of the scrubbiest Mets teams of all time, and then the Mets

Lee Mazzilli's Pants (link)

Randy from the Apple wrote about Lee Mazzilli’s pants. Those pants apparently made quite an impression on at least one young boy from Queens in the 1970′s.

100 Things Mets Fans Should Know And Do Before They Die (Revised and Updated)

First up, an apology to Maple Street Press.  In March they were kind enough to send me the Maple Street Mets Annual which was and is a really excellent resource for Mets fans – and the excuses don’t matter, I blew it and never did a proper review.  I don’t have a time machine and

Jersey snobs: should I buy this Mazzilli 16?

This is on ebay today (hmmm).  Osh41, Baron, everyone else…whatcha think?

Ebay link

It does have dropshadow, but it’s not a retro, does have a 16 on front.

Believe it or not I’m not good at catching jersey nitpicks….help.

What kind of Lee Mazzilli jersey to buy?

As you may know, I have a man crush on Lee Mazzilli that dates back to the late 1970′s.

I want to buy myself some sort of Mazzilli jersey (number 16 of course, how dare they give that to some rookie pitcher in 1984) but I don’t know how to handle it.

They sell Mazzilli jerseys, but

Mazzilli: The Next Generation

Yes I actually have a Lee Mazzilli Google alert – I was very excited about this first paragraph of a story:

Freshman infielder LJ Mazzilli had a unique childhood that ranged from meeting Derek Jeter to playing video games in the clubhouse at Fenway Park with Sal Fasano. In his first season at UConn, however, Mazzilli

Story: Lee Mazzilli didn't enjoy Spiderman's wedding

My “Lee Mazzilli” Google News alert caught this one…

’86 Mets, Spiderman, The Hulk, and Lee Mazzilli supposedly not enjoying it.

Read here for behind the scenes.

(If you’re a newer reader of Mets Police, the Saturday beat tends to be lighter fare and yes I have a man-crush on Lee)

  • My new favorite Met: #13 Mike Nickeas

Again, the site is having major problems…hence the funkiness….what totally sucks was today was gonna be “work ahead” day.  Oh well.

While I try to recover ALL the posts (doh!!!!!!) I’ll continue typing over here in the orange box.

So why is Mike my favorite Met?  Because I love the number thirteen.

(Actually my favorite Met is future Hall of Famer Jon Niese.  I intended to post today about “Mets I like” - but not having a blog at all is sort of screwing with the plan for the day)

FLUSHING, N.Y., September 2, 2010 – The New York Mets today announced they selected the contract of catcher Mike Nickeas from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League.  To make room on the 40-man roster, the team transferred righthanded pitcher John Maine to the 60-Day Disabled List.  Nickeas will wear uniform #13 and will be available for tonight’s game in Atlanta.

Nickeas, 27, began the season at Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League, where he hit .283 (75-265) with five home runs and 33 RBI in 82 games.  The 6-0, 210-pound Nickeas joined Buffalo in late August, playing in seven games and hitting .214 (6-28).

The native of Vancouver, Canada originally was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the fifth round of the 2004 First Year Player Draft before being traded to the Mets on August 30, 2006 for outfielder Victor Diaz.

  • The site at metspolice.com is experiencing technical problems.

Remember those other 7,000 posts from the last three years?   Media Goon is down in the basement retyping them.

Until he finishes,I will use the Tumblr as a workaround.

metspolice.tumblr.com or just stare right here and ignore that white space on the left.   Might be a while…
