An Aging Nomad, Jose Reyes Longs for a Team in the Hunt – NYTimes.com

A reminder that Jose signed with the Marlins at like 12:01am.  Not “let me sleep on it until 7am.”  I imagine the Marlins would have waited seven hours if they really truly wanted him.  Let’s not do some new narrative where Jose tried and tried to stay in New York.  Or even play 9 innings for the fans at that last game.

Blame the cheap Mets all you want for not signing him, but he was out the door as fast as you could imagine.  And as for this quote, this will get the yahoos stirring…

I’d love to finish my career here in New York. I have some great memories here.”

  1. Reyes signed with the Marlins on December 6. Prior to agreeing to the deal, his agent came to the Mets and asked for their best offer, Sandy declined to make a formal offer and said they wouldn’t match the Marlins, it was not 12:01 and the Mets were given a chance to make an offer. I still think if the Mets had come anywhere close to the Marlins he would have stayed.
